      Wink My Intro - DILD

      Hello DV!
My name is Dylan, I am 16 and I have never had lucid dream or one that I can remember. I am always up to chat so feel free to send me a private message. (:

So I've been trying to lucid dream for about 2-3 months now ( not really serious ) I have only been using the RC where I would look at my hands and repeat 'Am I dreaming' and occasionally telling myself that I will lucid dream tonight. So far I haven't been able to achieve a lucid dream but I have noticed my dreams becoming a whole lot vivid and exciting, I have even woken up from a few with a feeling of euphoria and excitement ( I can't even imagine what actual lucid dreaming must feel like ). But coming across this website has made me realize that I've been doing everything wrong that other websites/forums have told me to do, well not exactly but they failed to explain what actually triggers LD and that it has a whole lot more to it than simply looking at your hands and saying your 'mantra.' Gab's useful DILD thread was a real eye opener for someone that in my position.
What I would like to know is what techniques for a DILD have worked best for you? Also, if you could explain what my mindset should be and how/when I do it would be a great help. Basically as much information as you can fit or care to add.
I also don't get what Gab means by thinking you are in a dream when RCing, I mean I do get it but I don't understand how to think you are in a dream when I am perfectly aware I'm awake.
Meditation has been on my mind lately and I was wondering if it has any real benefit in a dream? If so that would be one of my main priorities once lucid.

      Extra Information
      • I do not keep a dream journal, but I might consider using this website as one.
      • I have tried the WILD technique but I fidget a lot and think this technique is just too much concentration and have no intention on using it.
      • If you think a technique might work better than DILD please tell me and include as much information as possible or send me a link to a source.
      • I have read the most basic tutorials and probably are using them so if you think you can improve on them please don't be shy!
      • I would also love to hear you LD experiences preferably your first ones it would give be a big help to me.
      • My main focus when I do LD is for it to be a learning experience, my head has been a mess for a while now and I want to try and connect and try and make peace with myself. If anyone can reply on how to do that, what I should try and what to question/ask/do while dreaming I would be most grateful.

Any answer will help me greatly since I have been using incomplete techniques and if you have read up to this far koodos to you!
Thanks for reading and I hope to see many replies. (:

      Welcome to Dreamviews, Rippakone!

You understand the mindset correctly. Think of it this way. Do you ever fantasise? Do you ever think "oooh, what if NASA invited me to be an astronaut"? Or anything that you would love to do. Frankly, for us, this is not likely to happen, right? But it still gives you this funny feeling of happiness and maybe even some frighfull expectation. What if?

So same way, even if you know you are awake, don't think that. Think "what if". Have you heard theory, that this our "reality" could be just a halographic projection? Or that australian aboriginees believe, that this "reality" is just a dream, and our real life is the one we experience in our dreams. You don't have to believe that. Just think "what if". You have to do this, only until your first lucid. Then, you will understand, that no matter how much you are sure that you are not dreaming, it could still be that way.

This mind set is important, because this is what will get you lucid. When in your regular dream, you will suddenly go "what if". Then you maybe do RC and if will confirm you are dreaming, or will be sure, even before the RC.

And meditation is good for teaching you to quiet your mind and other things. But no, for lucid dreaming, it is not required.

What is important is your mind set, your awareness, your mental preparation and intent.

      Good luck and Happy dreams
