      Hello people!

My name is Nick, I'm 20 and I'm from the UK.

Having always been fascinating by the alternate realities we all escape to on a nightly basis, a few years ago I stumbled upon the concept of lucid dreaming (ahh the internet). Like the cynic I am, I thought it all sounded too good to be true and and the long-winded methodology of attaining lucidity put me off the idea of trying altogether. Still, reading people's dream journal entries on here was fascinating and the idea must have stuck in my mind because one night, something interesting happened.

I was waiting at my school bus stop on a cold, wet and miserable morning when the bus finally arrived. Only it wasn't a yellow double decker bus like it usually is, but a purple triple decker bus. I was preparing to get on the bus when it occurred to me that the triple decker buses don't exist, and I looked up at the driver who looked furious with me for noticing that fact. Suddenly everything became jarringly vivid, and I realised that I had in fact attained lucidity.

The first thing that came to mind was flying, so I ran down the road and took off with incredible velocity. The sheer magnitude of what I was experiencing was so breathtaking that I couldn't help but question it, and I lost lucidity. Since then I had another lucid dream, although I can't remember the details of it because it was very short-lived and clearly wasn't as memorable as the first time.

After those experiences I've had no more lucid dreams but I have had sleep paralysis hallucinations involving a swarm of spiders which weren't particularly pleasant, which is odd as I have no qualms with spiders in reality.

These experiences were years ago now, but in the last year I've had some incredible life-changing encounters with a certain fungi which have reignited my fascination with lucid dreaming (and the power of the mind in general).

I have begun a dream journal and plan to actually stick to it this time, consistency is key I believe. Bring on the lucids.

Hi Nick, welcome to the forums!

Lucid dreaming is actually so good, it's too good to be too good to be true, so it's doubly true! You know this first hand, but if you want to have more I suggest you look through some of the tutorials found here. They're really helpful and contain tons of useful information. It takes determination to get lucid, but it is so absolutely worth it that you just have to do it! As you said, reading through some people's dream journals are great places for inspiration, and keeping one yourself is absolutely critical.

If you have any questions feel free to ask! We're really friendly and will happily help you with whatever you need .

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

Congrats on your lucid. And no worries, it will get easier. And also, I still wake myself up from sheer beauty of lucid dream and happiness. It's a great feeling, and I treasure it, even if it wakes me up.
