      SO CLOSE...Or was i?

Last night after reading "the world of lucid dreaming" i decided to try WILD again. I laid on my right side and went really still. I stayed that way for a long time counting to one hundred....one im dreaming, two im dreaming, etc.

I felt weird near my face and all the sudden my heart began to race and i got really hot. Then i began swallowing almost rapidly involuntarily. Then i began coughing cause of a dryish feeling throat......

Was i really close? Is that normal? What should i do next time? Any suggestions?

      Silent Mind?

They say with a WILD you have to have a "silent mind" what the heck do you mean? I count to one hundred, etc. Am i making a mistake?

Note: i have never had a lucid dream before.....so unfair..BUT I HAVE SLEPTWALK BEFORE SO HAH!

i was once trying a WBTB and i had a silent mind. it is where i could not daydream, no matter how hard i tried. i was a little freaked out because i had lost the ability to temporarily let my mind wonder.

this may just be me but. i could not even sleep, let alone WILD. VERY frustrating.

it could be a different sort of silent mind that your on about

i think am important part to WILDing is a stable frame of mind.

when i usualy go to sleep, i let thoughts freely pass through. but if i can maintain a partuclar thought / frame of mind, i will be able to pass through into 'dreamland'

Sleepwalking has nothing to do with lucid dreaming.

      I recommend DILDing.

So counting is a no no?

for some people, you just need to be still to trick the body into SP. but for a lot, to much awarness of the body results in no SP.
so its a question of finding a mind exersise that takes your attention of the body. and as i said above, you need to find a mind exersise that is stable, in the sense that you can maintain awarness of what your doing

The first few times you try to WILD, try just watching your thoughts as you fall asleep. Stay passive and inquisitive. Just see what your thoughts naturally do every night as you relax and fall asleep normally.

When you WILD, you need to stay right on the edge of sleep. Maintain enough awareness so you will not zonk out, but let your thoughts run free so you can fall asleep. It can be tricky at first, because you don't know what to expect. Once you get a feel for things, you will better know when to push and when to let go.

What do you man watch your thoughts? Do you mean, when thoughts enter your mind, just let them come and don't get involved with them?

The same thing happens to me. I pretty much have a panic attack type of thing. It's a really horrible experience. Something else that was really strange happened to me the other night when I tried to WILD. I got that panic feeling and my heart started beating rapidly, I started shaking and my mind seemed to be doing back-flips (don't know how to describe it). I also got very hot and my arms went numb and stayed numb for a while after I forced myself to wake up. I was shaken, numb, and freaked out when I opened my eyes. I did two reality checks (clock and hand) and they verified I was indeed not dreaming. I had this awful feeling when I woke up of not being sure whether I was dreaming or awake and it really scared me. When I figured out I was awake I had this awful feeling for the rest of the night. I had trouble sleeping later on too. What I experienced sounds similar to what you experienced, however my experience seems a little more severe.

Anyone have any ideas on how to avoid this?

      Exclamation First Technique

Hi I’m new to the whole lucid dreaming thing. I have never lucid dreamed before and I want advice on which technique I should use.

ABOUT ME: I am an intense daydreamer. I daydream everyday. My teachers ask me why I space out and I get told a lot that I have to get out of my “little world”. I have issues remembering stuff, really bad issues so I am not sure about MILD. Plus I have low confidence.

WILD, MILD, etc, What is the best for ME?

PLEASE REPLY I NEED YOU GUYS!!!

I have never had a lucid dream either, so I can't say for sure, but I would suggest having a dream journal (it will make it easier for you to remember your dreams when you wake up).

Try doing a WBTB, and then a combination of WILD and MILD.
I tried it for the first time yesterday, so it hasn't worked for me yet, but it sounds like a good plan.

Since you seem to be good at thinking and visulising (spelling)

I would use the Visulising variation of a mild. (Build your dream recall first)

Check out the tutorials to find out more.

      Welcome btw

VILD or V-WILD (same thing), but still keep a dream journal and do RCs or whatever.

Pretty odd experiences you guyz are having, but, I'm not really sure about their cause Have you ever experienced this kind of thing before or was that the first time?

It was a first for me. I've never had a successful WILD though... They kinda freak me out because of what happened. I probably just have to be calm though.

i think what would help you 2 is if you did research into your exact feelings. i imagine it will take a while, but if you understood what these feelings were then im sure it would help a lot.

it maybe didnt help that it took you so long to get to this state. make sure its between 3 and 6 in the morning.
once woken up, and back in bed. do reverse blinking (its where you close your eyes, count to five and breifly open them for a bout a second and close them again, then count to five, open.......) that will make you feel sleepy/drowsey very fast.

there are some who can let the effects of the SP subtly pass over them, but me, and many others, become to aware of the body, and so it doesnt work (the SP sequence is immidiatly jetisoned ) so i have to keep my active consciousness busy. here is a good one:

(in my experience, i find this a lot better than counting)

imagine yourself in a common place (eg your kitchen), now start doing somthing normal (eg eat an apple), be spontanious, but what ever you do, use all 5 senses (taste the apple, smell it, hear it crunch as you bite it). if after wondering around your kitchen for a while, you get bored, try flying, feel the wind in your face, the coldness, the woosh as it blows past your ears.

by now you will be completely distractd from your body, and the SP will pass and you barely would have felt it.

i do a lot of cross-country running. and a big part of that is to be able to ignor the pain/strain on your body. so i do the above exersise, and as in suddenly snap back, i realise i have just run half a mile. it kinda puts me in a trace.

BTW, this technique seems suprisingly hard at first. but the more you do it the better you will get.

      good luck

You can work on your memory, don't let that keep you back. You'll even benefit from it by having that better waking memory.

I think DJing and RCing are the easiest.

I get the heart racing thing too, it happens to me right before I enter a dream. Just do your best to ignore it and keep your thoughts passive (try to not give a damn about anything for as long as you can and it should pass)

      quick question:
every time I've seen anyone talk about the eyes they said they had them open.
      So open or closed?

and how would one deal with involuntary swallowing?
