LOL I did not even know I was doing it!!!
Reason? Imake make things happen that I could not do in "reality"....jump off buildings, walk around town in the nude lol!
But now I see there is so much more to lucid dreaming!!

      My reason

Being a student and an amateur cross-country runner, I always find my time filled with either extremely boring coursework or training schedules. I love the idea that while I dream, I can control my surroundings. To be able to explore fantastical landscapes and visually theorize about space travel etc while actually doing it (in the dream) really captivates me, as it does many others.

I've only ever had one lucid dream before, when I was 10. The only thing I remember was a feeling of awarness, so now I'm focusing on increasing my dream recall, just like the tutorial said.

Well, for one, who wouldn't want to have lucid dreams? I want to have lucid dreams because it seems they can be a lot of fun, and it is something to do at night. I have heard that you can use time in a lucid dream to think and plan as well as just have fun. I will be able to 'stay up' late into the night (all night, well, mostly all night) and think, without losing any sleep at all! It will be great!
So, I guess saved time and funfunfun are what I want to lucid dream for.

      Fantasy?

I guess that, perhaps, the reason I starting to want to learn how to LD would be to fulfill fantasies that would otherwise not be possible (or even illegal). Although, now that I have been reading more about it, seeing all the various possibilities, I can't wait to get started and see everything that can be done in the dream world

I have one reason, and one reason only, when I'm in an LD, I am free, truly free, freer than you could ever be in real life. In my dreams, I own an entire world, not limited by space or time, to do whatever I want with. I am not limited by laws, social or physical, nor am I bound by daily obligation. I am just free, do do whatever I want, it's a great felling.
Now we know what happens to today when it becomes yesterday... It waits for them... the timekeepers of eternity!

      Freedom, Productivity

From what I've heard about LDs, you're all alone from the real world. When I have one, I can't wait to break the laws of physics; fully enjoy myself while I sleep. Also, I hope to use my dream time for something productive, like learning something new or overcoming my fears. I also want to have some fun in my life....it's not like I do everyday.

Man, what I would do if I truely LD'ed. I would probably try and converse with historical figures, establish new philosophies, maybe a little "fun"

First, because it is fun and I miss it. Second, I have the feeling it is important for my spiritual path.

      1- Fun, of course
      2- Knowing myself better
3- Absolute freedom (i guess this is the best part )
4- The fights.... well i know this is part of the fun....but i can't wait to fight some guys a la Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan, ya know.
5- Resting. Yea, resting. I usually can't rest because i keep worrying myself with stupid things. So i would use a dream to sleep well (wtf )
6- Fighting my nightmares and fears (this should be easy)
7- Doing things i would never do in waking life. I mean, to know myself better (omg this is on number 2 )
8- Make my waking life much more better
9- Become more creative... smarter...... and subjective
      10- Have... like.... two lives
11-Using LD's for thinking? Philosophies would be far more interesting, since i could "project" them, and i could see the world in a different way.
12-Relaxation (maybe this fits in number 5)
13 and last- Paranormal stuff that could happen 8)
Spots of love in a deep and red scarlet...

      Reasons

Reasons in NPO (No particular Order):

To hear the most beautiful music I could imagine.
To interact with my favorite animated characters.
To practice martial arts and learn new techniques before I do IRL
To perhaps meet other LD'ers in dreamland (if that is possible, still finding out).
      To experiment with precognition.
To meet with myself and ask certain questions about myself (a psychological projection of myself into a DC).

I don't get too emotional in my LD's so they last a bit longer than usual. However, sex would probably be one thing I would try if I remembered to.

i guess my reasons are what many others have said:

      1. to live through two lifetimes whereas before i only had one
      2. hedonism (as in life) and more hedonism, travel.
      3. connecting to information (about the nature of things, reality, nature, life)
      4. healing myself and healing others (should they ask)
      5. to connect to the energies, to the infinite love in the universe
      6. to liberate my waking assumptions, transcend aversions, see clearly
      7. maybe someday, satori and kensho
      8. to enjoy aesthetics that do not translate into waking life

Well, I've been lucid dreaming for years now, but I didn't know that it was something to be learned!

I started lucid dreaming a lot during nightmares to diminish the scariness and I can also recognize that I'm dreaming a lot of the time. I can control my dreams in certain ways as well once I realize I'm dreaming.

For me, it's just a new and strange experience. I barely ever remember dreams (Which I am trying to remedy at the moment ) so I was under the assumption that I just didn't have many dreams, until I saw this site. Now I can barely wait to get to bed every night! I just want to try to remember my dreams, and to get over a specific phobia I have...
Spiders. And needles, those too. But before that, I want to have fun! When I first read about it, Lucid Dreaming and Dream Control seemed literally too good to be true. After I've thought about it, it sunds possible. After all, imagination really is the only limit, right?

Almost right about imagination being the only limitation. You are also limited by the strength and deepness of your dream. Some dreams are just unclear... Kind of like they are blurry, but different. I'm sure you know what I mean.
But there are methods to make them stronger...

Glad to have you in the community.

Thanks. There are also somethings that people have mentioned that I never thought remotely possible, even in a dream. Such as talking to your subconcious. It sounds so strange, but people have done it. Then again, this whole site sounds so strange (Yet very interesting) to me. The forums are different, the idea behind the site is the most unique thing I've heard of in years, and the member's are very dedicated! I'm very glad that someone mentioned Lucid Dreams in another forum I visit, because if they hadn't, I wouldn't be here now!

      to do something meaningful

And by that I mean meaningful in a cosmic sense, whatever that means.
Interpersonal ego warfare dominates first world life, at least it isn't the kill me kill you warfare of third world life, but so many relationships are senseless in the sense that there is competition but no winner. In lucid dreaming, there isn't any of that, since most lucid dreamers dream alone, and I like to think that dream sharing is impossible for people with selfish intentions. I could be wrong about that, but knowledge of living within the boundaries of our senses is important, at whatever level of those senses.

Lucid Dreams are fun, anyone who has had one almost always seem to long for another even if they don't know the term "lucid dream". I know I did. I new nothing about the topic when I had my first lucid dream. Then years after when I have totally forgotten about the experience my Uncle brings up the topic at the dinner table one day. I then researched what a lucid dream was and have since been conscious of my dreams. I've done two dream journals in the past with about 30 dreams in each. I've had about 10 - 15 LDs that I can remember (I plan to double it this summer) I have just started another, and plan to keep it until I fill it up. I'm also reading Lucid Dreams in 30 Days the Creative Sleep Program by Keith Harary, PH.D. and Pamela Weintraub. I'm on day five, it takes me about two days to complete one day due to me being busy with school, finals, graduation and getting ready for college.

Anyways, my point being once you start in the world of lucid dreaming and especially if you have a vivid and long lucid dream there's really no turning back. It's so fun, it has endless possibilities, and is so stimulating that it captures your imagination and you start to challenge yourself to see how deep you can dive into your dream world. I enjoy a challenge and pushing myself, I get addicted to challenges. It's also has so many benefits to any person that peruses LDing that it can interest many different type of people with many separate agenda for their goals attached to LDing.

But in all reality it's fun, and there's always more that you can learn and explore in your subconscious.

      It's FUN

I have to admit, that list really made me want to lucid dream. Right now!

I've read some really great suggestions. I guess I'm doing it because we waste a third of our life sleeping, and if you're lucid, you can spend a portion of that time training your muscle memory, or practicing for public speaking or public events, or having fun, it seems like a great tool. Even if you're not lucid every night, which I'll probably never get to, perfected dream recall still makes all the effort really worth it.
