      how exciting!

      HOW EXCITING!!

recently ive been having nightmares, at first it was about real stuff, my boyfriend cheating on me with my bestfriend, having fights with loved ones etc and then it became worse, darker, about ghosts and killing, ive always been extremely present in my dreams, knowing that its not real but not being able to stop it or change whats happening. the other night i hada dream that i had killed all of my friends and in the morning decided to tryand find out what was causing all these bad thoughts.i stumbled accross this site and was amazed! i had no idea this sort of stuff even existed.. i read and re read everything on here and last night i had a baddream again, but somehow it ended eally awesomely! i dont think it was any sort of control of my own, but im going to wok hard at being able to control my dreams! there is soo much to learn! im so excited.

i just have one question... can a feeling be a sign? in my bad dreams i usually get an intense feeling of anxiousness.. it gets so extreme untill i panick but then its like a switch in my head that goes, pheeeew this is just a dream. its not real! havent noticed any other signs yet though.

Yes. Strong emotions, especially fear and anxiousness, serve as wonderful signs you are dreaming. Reality check in real life whenever you feel stressed or nervous.

I wish you luck in conquoring your nightmares. Sometimes I think we get in a cycle with nightmares. We begin to connect sleeping with bad dreams. We anticipate them, and the expectation makes them continue.

Hey there, welcome to DV. =)

Lucid dreaming is amazing for ending nightmares. I don't have them often, but since I started LDing either all of them or nearly all of them have turned lucid. It sounds like you've already had some improvement; keep up the good work.

Same thing happens to me when I'm having bad dreams. Right before I'm about to die or see something really scary, I just realize it's a dream and wake myself by closing my eyes in my dream and then opening them in real life. Unfortunately I never really use this knowledge to change the circumstances and become lucid, I'm trying to work on that though. I think next time you have a bad dream try doing that. too.
