      My First Lucid Experience

Ok, so last night I managed to lucid dream on accident. I've read about it about a year ago but never really did the whole reality check and dream diary thing, though I have taken more notice of my dreams and they have been getting more vivid as of late.

Anyway in the dream I was able to jump really high and I guess my dream self decided I might be able to fly too and at first I failed a couple of times and then I suddenly started floating up, and kept rising quite quickly and I didn't know how to slow down and then out of nowhere I ended up in this room and floating. This is at the point where I consciously realized I was in a dream and I was lucid dreaming. I think I got excited though and I ended up losing it and waking up.

Now, this afternoon, I took a nap and managed to do it again. I have no idea how since I wasn't even thinking of doing it but I "got up" and tried out random stuff like touching things and doing a flip, etc. When I tried to take a look at my surroundings though I lose everything again.

So now I think since I just was able to do this by accident my lucid dreaming is probably really unstable. I am not able to percieve my surroundings very clearly and so far the only thing I am able to do is control my movement. I am also aware of my real self and could hear myself breathing, is that normal?

Sorry if it's quite long, I just figured you might want the background story. Am I fully lucid dreaming and am I doing it correctly? What can I do to make it better and not fall out of it so easily? Also any other information you think might be helpful would be great too. ^^

That said, it was quite a nice experience and I'm looking forward to better results.

Edit: Also both times it was very near to when I've just fallen asleep, like within a half hour if that matters any.

Thats odd. Checking your surroundings makes you wake up?
Why not try a method of getting into lucidity, without just stumbling upon it. Maybe it'll make things more stable.

Yeah, this is the number one problem that new LDers have. With practice and experience you will be able to easily overcome the bursts of excitement. Just remember to stay as calm as possible, especially in the early stages of the dream.

So now I think since I just was able to do this by accident my lucid dreaming is probably really unstable. I am not able to percieve my surroundings very clearly and so far the only thing I am able to do is control my movement. Once you first get into the dream I suggest some stabilization techniques such as feeling some textures, looking in front of you and imagining your dream scene clearing up, performing RCs, looking at your feet, spinning in a circle, shouting "increase clarity now", etc. Just experiment with some different things and see what works best for you. I am also aware of my real self and could hear myself breathing, is that normal? Yes, it is normal, especially during the early stages of the dream. The easiest way to get passed this problem, is to engage in some dream activities. You will soon forget all about your normal body and be able to stay in the dream longer.

Sorry if it's quite long, I just figured you might want the background story. Am I fully lucid dreaming and am I doing it correctly? What can I do to make it better and not fall out of it so easily? Also any other information you think might be helpful would be great too. ^^ It sounds to me like you are doing pretty good. Just keep practicing and posting any questions you may have.

Well, good luck to you! I hope I helped a bit!

Welcome to Dreamviews, and YES you are fully lucid dreaming! Congrats our having your first lucids!

The first one sounds like a DILD, the second one sounds like a WILD. It's not uncommon at all to get overexcited and wake yourself up in your first lucids, so don't worry too much about it--with a little more practice you'll learn to stay calm and avoid waking up.

As far as keeping dreams stable and controlling them, those are also skills you'll need to practice. If you have a hard time seeing in a dream or keeping it stable, shout "clarity now!" or focus on an object close to you. For stability, it really helps to rub your hands or touch an object or the ground--anything to keep you focused on your dream senses instead of your physical senses.

It sounds like you're already well on your way to having more lucid dreams. All you have to do now is practice a keeping them stable and doing some dream control. Good luck!

Thank you for all the help! ^_^ Good to see I'm on the right track. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up the lucid streak and try out some of things posted here.
