      Have been trying for months...

      Hey DV!

I have been loosely interested in Lucid Dreaming (and dreaming in general) for years, I enjoy reading people's journals etc. For few months I have been trying to attain lucidity myself, without any luck unfortunately

My dreams aren't vivid at all, they are very blur and random. I've never had situation when my dream would be so real that I would confuse it with actual reality. So yes, I'm aware that I'm dreaming, but it's far from getting control and the lucidity itself. I could say that dreams feel very inconvinient for me, everything is so fast and changes all the time.

I have Dream Journal, but I'm not really that good in recalling dreams. I usually recall 3 or 4 dreams, but can only describe the last one with details. The rest of them is basically what the dream was about, no details, because I don't remember any of them. I'm not even sure if it wasn't just a one dream that was constantly changing.

I tried WILDing and WBTB. I couldn't put myself in sleep paralysis though. One night I lied on my back in bed for about an hour, clearing my mind and doing all stuff that WILD tutorials tell you about, until it became too uncomfortable and I changed the position to finally get some sleep. I had, however, some progress on WBTB. I started waking up after REM phases, 3 or 4 times a night by drinking water before sleep.

Can you help me DreamViews? Can I improve "clairty" of my dreams somehow? I think this is the only thing that really holds me back... apart from bad recall, but I'm working on it. Can I do anything else to finally get a LD?

      Hi, welcome

First of all, you are aware that you are dreaming so by definition you've had lucid dreams. But there's still room for improvement. This tutorial focuses on control: http://dreamviews.com/community/showthread.php?t=66753

When you use DILD instead of WILD your dreams will be more vivid I think. I've never succesfully WILDed, so I'm not a reliable source though. You can find the link for DILD here. You can also read this tutorial about MILD, which is a form of DILD.

3 to 4 dreams recalled isn't bad at all, but if you want to get better be sure to keep active in your dream journal.

      Good luck!

Like hot chocolate said, 3-4 dreams recalled is pretty good. Even if they are fragments. There are alot of people who would love to remember multiple dreams a night. I found that drinking a glass or two of apple juice before bed helps with my clarity and vividness. You could also buy some B6 (vitamin) if you are really having trouble with clarity. Apple juice should work fine though. You could also try engaging in some colorful activities before bed. Cartoons are usually nice and vibrant as well are video games. Remember, alot of times your dreams actually are clear and vibrant, but short term memory loss causes you to forget the majority of the dreams. This can cause the memory of the dream to be faded and erratic. Good luck to you.

So, keeping a dream journal and writing as much as you possibly can about your dreams as soon as you wake from one "exercises" the dream recall muscle? Meaning that the more you keep the journal entries coming, with as much detail as you can possibly muster, the more you WILL be able to recall and so on? Like lifting weights?

In a sense, yes. Just like virtually anything else in life, practice makes perfect. Experience creates the master. Just keep building recall and your mind/body will get into the habit of remembering dreams. The more you LD, the easier it becomes. It is the same way for recall.

      Thank you all for replies!

I know that I might have lucid dreams right now, but these are not what I expected... After all, it is obvious that I'm dreaming when everything is so fast, random and blurry - like watching a movie, but skipping it all the time to following scenes. The whole control I have is ability to wake up. It is useful sometimes, one time I noticed that I was dreaming but I remembered that I was on a lecture at that moment

Am I expecting too much? From read people's experience I thought that LDs would be more realistic. That I could actually be suprised that I'm dreaming. That, for example, I would be walking to the train station like I do every morning and then notice that something is wrong and in fact I'm dreaming. How is reality of your LDs compared to reality of your normal dreams?

For me there is no way to determine if I'm dreaming or awake besides doing a reality check. I've recalled several times that I was doing a reality check in a dream while I was absolutely certain I was awake.

      Here is a link I should've posted earlier: http://dreamviews.com/community/showthread.php?t=8744

I heard doing math problems in the dream helps stabilize the dream, as well as looking at the ground.

Also because you believe waking up is the only control you have, it is the only thing you can do. Believe determines success in lucidity.

My problem is that it doesn't "feel" like I'm there. As I stated, it's like watching a movie which jump/skips all the time. I believe that sometimes I have "3rd" person dreams when I'm somebody else watching myself or I have just "projections" of myself walking in dreamworld. It really saddens me when everybody tells me how awesome their dreams are (even when they are far from LDing) and my dreams don't even "feed" all my senses...

Someone with more experience with WILD should comment on this, but it likes your in the one of the final stages of WILD, you only still need to enter the dream. This can be difficult, but when you got the trick down you should be able to have a proper lucid dream every night, since all your dreams are like the final stage of WILD.

Here are some fragment of WILD tutorials that are of interest of you:

eventually you'll start seeing vivid images in your head, these go on for a little while (you've stopped focusing on your body but your still trying to relax when you breathe out) eventually these HI will be extremely vivid (I can't give you a time-frame because this state of mind is timeless, your breaths blend into one another and you lose all perception of time and space), you'll see a random object, maybe it'll be a cup, or a lollipop. suddenly that cup/ Lolly will be setting on a table or on the ground or something (it'll be more than seeing it in your head, its more of your looking at it with your eyes) This is when you have to start thinking a little bit.

The cup is now sitting on the ground, notice what type of ground its one (ie. "oh the cup's on cement") the trick is to not say "the cup will be sitting on grass" or something like that. Your not making the scene, the scene is being built in front of you. you just have to stay conscious while this is happening.
This all happens in an instant. you'll see a cup, then the cups sitting on the ground, then you suddenly (without conscious action) look up and see a bouncing highway, then you realize your legs are moving, and finally your fully in, it turns out that the scene you just watched being created was you taking an afternoon jog down the sidewalk in front of your house. your now in a lucid dream, you can do anything your heart desires
While in transition, visual imagery varies greatly. You may see total blackness, or perhaps only see a still image. You may see geometric patterns chasing each other or streaming past your vision at a high rate of speed. One time, I watched an incredibly blue butterfly slowly open and close its wings while I was in transition. Again, do not examine them too closely, pretend you are watching a very odd movie. If possible, also incorporate this into you ‘daydream’. Often, when I see a bright light in front of me, I pretend that it is my lucid dream and that I am flying to enter it!
      Step Two
As you begin to relax close your eyes and observe any visual images that will gradually appear. Don't concentrate on any one image. Just let the images flow and watch how they begin and end.
You will at first see fleeting patterns and images. As these images progress, they will develop into scenes that become more similar to a dream scene. More complex.
At this point you are beginning to crossover from a wakeful state into a sleeping state.

      Step Three
      Enter the Dream
When these images manifest into moving, vivid scenarios allow yourself to passively be drawn into the dream world. Try to maintain a level of awareness so to not fall asleep unconsciously.
Do not try and actively enter the dream scene. Take a detached interest in the imagery.
Let your involvement with what is happening draw you into the dream.
There is a fine line...... Too much involvement may lead you to awake. too little, you will drift of to sleep.
If you maintain the proper level of awareness you will find that you have just went directly from a waking state to a lucid dream state.
