Well, I do think it's true that most dreams have similarities to them, but I see what you mean.

So did Inception bring in a ton of new visitors as anticipated?

Yeah, nearly every day since Inception was released we've been breaking forum records for most new member registrations per day.

Well, I'm a noob here, but I've known about lucid dreaming for quite a while. I read around the forums a little before I signed up, so... hopefully the influx of noobs isn't all bad? I mean, more people to talk to about it. Or grumble about it if it isn't quite working right.

There's nothing bad about the increased attention at all. I'm not even sure if the OP was serious. I hope not.

Don't think that all of the people who are joining now have done it just because they saw that movie.

I just joined because I am genuinely interested in LDing and I have been interested in the subject for years.

Anyway, a good reason that Inception may not accurately portray the dream world is because the people are hooked up to technology in an already planned out dream through an architect. -shrugs-

I wasn't totally. Part of me thinks BAWWW IT'S GOING TO BE RUINED but the rest of me has taped that part's mouth so it's all good.

i thought the purpose of this site was to spread the knowledge of lucid dreaming to as many people who wanted to learn. just as long as the people who come here know that inception is not a great interpretation of LDing, then it should be good.

The evening hangs beneath the moon, a silver thread on darkened dune.
With closing eyes and resting head; I know that sleep is coming soon.

Upon my pillow, safe in bed,
A thousand pictures fill my head,

      I cannot sleep , my mids aflight;
and yet my limbs seems made of lead.

but that's not going to fix our current problem of new members asking questions that could easily be answered by them simply looking up the DV Dictionary.
      There's a DV dictionary?

      ...huh.

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.

saw it in the theatre recently, walked out halfway through because it was so goddamned stupid. they don't actually say "lucid dreaming" do they? I guess even if they don't you could still get to this page with keywords. anyway, goddamn that movie is stupid.

Nothing matches the influx that began pouring in after Avatar.

Anyone else remember that? Good grief! They were pouring in by the billions.

Okay, well, maybe not. But there were quite a few.

James Cameron's Avatar? How would people look up dreaming for that, he transfers his consciousness.
"For a long time it gave me nightmares, having to witness an injustice like that. It was a constant reminder of how unfair this world can be, I can still hear them taunting him. 'Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids!'... How come they just couldn't give him some cereal?"

No, no. People just really wanted to visit Pandora. They probably looked up something along the lines of "How can I visit Pandora?"

Maybe it wasn't new people. Maybe the movie just revived some dead users/lurkers.

I wish I were around to see that. Alas, alas, that influx was before my time. Sounds like it was odd.
I don't usually think, therefore I mostly am not.

Likewise, you cant teach some one who looks for facts to have faith in the absence of facts.

I remember a bunch of Avatar/Pandora related threads back when I first joined. I pretty much ignored them, since I was more interested in fixing my nightmares at the time.

Sure, it might not be in your taste, but the movie did pretty well with explaining a cool and interesting story. Using the whole "10% or your mind herp derp" myth annoyed me, but that's just about it. It's a movie afterall.
