It was the strangest thing I have ever seen. He had NO apparent wounds. Nothing seemed off except his butt was red. He was playful and friendly. I took him to bed with me for a nap, my daughtre got home about 2 hours later and everything was okay- he just seemed a little sick and weak to her. About 2 hours after that, she woke me because he was bleeding.
It was as if his skin just dissolved. Both of his hips had huge circular wounds that were festering with maggots. Maggots were coming out of his butt. The circular areas weeped blood but nothing more. But almost hourly, it seemed as if the maggots ate deeper and further. By the end, I could see a sliver of one of his bones. I had him wrapped well and he still bled through. His flesh crawled with the maggots there were so many.
At first, it looked to me as if he had a botfly wound which I have seen and successfully treated before in other animals. Botfly wounds are always amazingly clean. But I always got the maggot out before it developed. Perhaps one hatched under the kittens skin and the wound festered and became infected afterward.

Now, every time I close my eyes I see those maggots. I've never seen that sort of activity before on something alive.
Having seen many wounds and having treated many pets and strays, I've never killed a single one because of the injuries. Usually, I just hold them until they drift away. I should have smothered this guy sooner. I've never seen anything so disturbing.

As an interesting side note, almost as soon as he died, my headache went away.

I want to cry but the tears just aren't coming. Every time i'd seen an update i'd go and cuddle my dog

This may actually be more disturbing than Seroquel's Serial Killer thread!!

I'm glad you provided the warnings Zhaylin, because I ended up skimming over most of the gruesome details and still almost felt sick about it. Poor little kittie!!!

But you're doing the right thing. It deserves a clean and quick death and not slowly worsening pain and suffering until the bitter end.

Well when I took my rabbit to the vet, it's not because the maggots need food, they burrow deeper into the flesh to keep warm, nothing necessarily wrong with the cat before, my rabbit was perfectly healthy before.

My back is broken. Well, not like.. broken, but it is really aching and stiff. Some big guys decided to give me hell at bjj... But I won, that gives a smile.. still they can overpower me as long as they have endurance. I am about 25-40kg lighter than biggest of them.

This whole story hurt to read. I feel terrible for you. It seems like if I had to do something like that, I'd be traumatized. I would have nightmares for the rest of my life about it. But you seem to undergo terrible things like that every few days. So many bad things seem to happen to you. You need a new life or something.

Zhaylin, I found that story incredibly hard to read; the whole ordeal must have been heartbreaking. I'm so sorry you had to do that in the end.

I used to live on a farm and one of the horses ended up having a foal, but the mother grew ill very fast and ended up going not a few days later. What really struck me was that when we woke up in the morning and went to find the mother lying on the ground, unmoving, the foal was standing over her and trying to lift her up with his head.

It's 1:24 and I'm supposed to get up at 7:00, so I'm going to bed. I just finished an essay (last minute, oops... but it should be okay) and I'm almost done a music video I've been working on for the past week. Good riddance, because the thing has taken me upwards of ten hours so far. No big deal.

Arch and Puffin Sympathies for you losses. My loss was much easier because he was just a stray. I hadn't even named him. I can't imagine going through that with a pet I had thoroughly bonded with!!!
What happened to the foal?

Today is a new day. Hopefully there will be only minor rants from here on out!

My rant is that I have a cold. I've had a minor cough for a couple of days but now it's progressed to the read deal. I've drank nearly half a bottle of Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom since midnight before last. Thanks a lot, daughter. I was checking her throat some time ago when a cough seized her so she coughed right in my face lol Oh well, it's that time of year, I guess.
I can't believe the leaves are already starting to change colors!!

I have to take my daughter to school again today. Not because she missed the bus this time, but because she has to check in with her Probation. I have to leave here at around 7:45 to have her there by 8. Maybe I'll leave just a little later. We don't have to be there at 8 exactly.
I REALLY hate morning and afternoon traffic.

The foal was fine after a few days, but when we tried to take his mother away, he would walk up to us and stand in the way. He was really protective of her.

My rant is that I've got an uber upset stomach; I think I ate some bad A&W or something yesterday. Stay away from them Mozza Burgers, folks. Even though they're amazingly delicious... x_x

It's always the best tasting food that does the worst things to you, isn't it?

Speaking of food, I did manage to make those scalloped potatoes and ham in the crock pot finally, and it just didn't taste good. I think next time I'll just use a regular recipe and cook it in the oven. weird that I can't get this to work when beef stew (which consists mainly of cubed potatoes and chunks of meat) tastes so dam good from the crock pot!!! Now I have this big tupperware container full of crappy-tasting scalloped potatoes that I worked hard to slice up the other night and I think I'm just gonna trash the whole thing. Sucks.

Sorry to hear about the meal Darkmatters. What was wrong with it? Was it too bland or was the texture off? I love crock pot food- but even moreso, I LOVE food cooked in a pressure cooker

My rant is that my back is broken and I'm just now starting to get feeling back in my right hand. My ears are gurgling, my cough is worse.
I went back to sleep after taking my daughter to school and I just woke up a short while ago. And for some reason, lately, I've been clutching my blanket and I wake up barely able to move my hand.
BUT, I have neither a sore throat or a fever, so I guess I should be thankful for the little things

I'm confused about something though. I heard, when you fall into a proper deep sleep, you body completely relaxes and you enter a type of paralysis. I'm almost always holding a baby wipe. A lot of the time, I fall asleep with one in my hand. When I wake up, half the time it's still in my hand. How can I hold onto anything? My first thought was that my hand just cups it and I maintain the same position throughout the night. But I toss and turn a LOT lol, so I can't see that happening.

It just tastes sort of burnt I guess. Maybe I just cooked it too long again, like I did last time. I used a slightly different recipe this time - the main difference being that when you add the can of cream of celery (or mushroom) soup this time I didn't add any water, whereas in the other recipe it said to go ahead and add the recommended amount of water. When you cook in a crock pot you really don't need to add water (or not nearly as much anyway) as when you cook in something else (except for maybe a pressure cooker) because it's tightly sealed and no steam escapes. The reason most recipes call for so much liquid to start with is that most of it cook off. The only other difference is this time I only cooked it for 8 hours, and last time I let it go for 10. I think 6 might have been enough really!


But I did notice a couple people commented under the recipe (online) that they didn't like it but one said she tried it in the oven and it was much better. Next time I might try that.

Heh funny, but after slicing all. those. damn. potatoes. I had a dream with somebody cutting a sweet potato! Day residue ftw.

What's wrong with your back?

I think if you fall asleep clutching a baby wipe then when your hand relaxes it will still be sort of weakly holding it - a little more than just cradling it. Try it - hold your hand like you're clutching something then just let it rellax. Mine stays in the same pose but just gets weaker.

Then when you emerge from the REM atonia (extreme muscle relaxation that's called sleep paralysis if you wake up during) I guess your muscles re-engage before you can roll over or anything, and you'll re-clutch.

Zhaylin I always look forward to your daily updates!! It's like a reality show. Your life in all its glory, warts and all!! And like watching a reality show after a while you start to feel like you know the people.. I almost feel like I know your family. Thankfully there's no network that can cancel the Zhaylin show!

Oh, and I also overfilled the crock pot - that might have something to do with it. I think you're not supposed to fill it over about 3/4, but I basically mounded it right up against the lid!!!

My back is "broken" simply because I slept WAY too long on a partially deflated air mattress lol. I went to sleep last night at around 11PM and I slept today until 3PM- so 16 hours, minus around 1 hour because I woke briefly during the day.
But before 11 last night, I slept most of that evening and day as well.

Thanks for explaining REM atonia better. That must be what I'm doing lol

Another thing you can try with your crock pot is to cook it during the day and watch it like a hawk I had similar problems with something I was cooking eons ago and that's what I did. I just had to add more liquid every now and again.
Is your cooker sealing properly?

Curse you, Dark, now I want some real food But my crock pot broke years ago and my pressure cooker was lost. When my kids were younger, they would go on picnics, take everything outside then forget about it completely *sigh* The people who mow our lawns and cut our hay continue to find cookware in the strangest places lol
Keilbasa in a pressure cooker in the yummiest thing in the world (aside from Saba ) Put some cabbage in with the meat and you have a perfect meal (some people add potatoes too).

For now, I must remain content with microwaved steamed veggies, Thai Pia (sp), and fast food I NEED to get my home perfectly clean so I can get my hubby over here to replace my stove! But I don't see that happening anytime soon

Lol, I used to work @ an A&W... two actually. But not very much at one of them. It was towards the end of college. I did the math, and in a week of my current job, I worked more hours than 2 months at A&W during college

I know the feeling. That's awful! Weird that something that feels as good as sleeping can also hurt so much!

I read that it's not good to open it up before it's done - apparently each time you do enough heat escapes that it takes a half hour or 45 minutes to get back up to temp. They say to check it just tilt it so the condensed moisture all runs to the side and you can clearly see through the lid.

It's sealing perfectly - it's really brand new.

I'm tired of screwing up this same recipe over and over!! I've been living on Taco Bell for the most part. My dog loves to go there, she has a certain look that I know means "It's time to hit the Taco Bell drivethrough".

Hmmm, that's a polish sausage, isn't it? Sounds good... do you have a crock pot recipe for that? I could look one up I suppose. Now my mouth is watering and I'm getting sick of Chalupas!

You're just slightly north of North Carolina where I know they have southern twang, but you';re level with me here at the southern end of Illinois. Also being so close to the east coast I almost expect a bit of Boston accent.
