Yesterday was an absolute nightmare. I started crying as we were walking out the door to the house. A couple tears were still falling in the car. Paula (daughter-in-law) doesn't know that I DISPISE people seeing me cry. She asked if I was okay, then leaned forward to look at my face She then changed her mind about taking her pup, Tater, to the Pound. She wanted to call off the entire trip because it upset me, but I told her it was necessary and I'd be okay.
I grabbed the sickliest kitten to take him in too. I don't have it in me to kill another cat and at the Pound, they'll give him meds and if he doesn't get better, they'll put him down more humanely.
We carry all the animals instead of using the drop box (an enclosed kennel inside a shed-type thing). The lady gave us paper work, then gave all the animals a shot. The animals didn't even flinch lol, but the girls did. the lady then asked if the mm was a Pit Bull and alarm bells went off. I asked: "Y'all don't have a policy against Pit Bulls, do you? They wont be put down because of it?" She replied. "This is a kill shelter. We don't need a policy to put down animals and can do so at any time."
Then she asked if I was cleaning the kittens eyes and I told her I used baby wipes mostly, with a little alcohol in it. She told me to start using boric acid instead and said if the infection is allowed to fester, it would eat the eyeball.
I got emotional, talking about the cats and she said making them healthy just encourages them to breed.
She then disappeared into the animal area. She had us put the pups in an isolation room, then told us to leave the paperwork on the table, that she needed nothing else from us. I knew then that I had upset her.
The girls were fuming because the woman had been so "rude" and cold. I told them to see things from her perspective. How many irresponsible pet owners show up with crocodile tears or callousness to give up their animals? How many animals has she gotten attached to just to have them put down? I'd be cold too. WE ARE irresponsible pet owners. It's only right to take the coldness and rudeness that come our way.
I got the girls to work, came home, vegged a bit, then I got Kierra into the shower with me. She howled like a big scaredy baby but enjoyed it and didn't fight me once she was inside (the shower is a JUST a shower with sliding doors).
Then we got to the vet A woman with 2 huge dogs was getting things ready to leave. I looked over and said "Uh oh!" (like you do with little kids) It got the owners attention and she looked where I was looking. One of the dogs took a HUGE crap She was very apologetic, especially about the smell. I laughed and said "We're all dog owners here. We understand."
Then he had more accidents on the way outside. Everyone was scrambling to clean everything and to remove floor mats.
40 minutes later, the vet sees us. Kierra did amazingly. She got right onto the scale. She weighs 74 pounds We got into the room and the Vet's looking at her, asked about her disposition and I said she's fine unless you touch her feet. He decided to muzzle her just to be safe. THEN he wanted her on a table the raises. She was too busy trying to get the muzzle off. I straddled the table then she got on. I walked in front of her, they raised it, looked in her ears. Said it's allergies but probably the worst he's ever seen. He said he'll put a gel in her ears, went around a corner outside the room, opened something. He then asked about her shots etc. I told her she needs everything, but I only $46. which is what my daughter was told the office visit would be. I saw a wrapper fall to the floor. He re-entered the room empty handed. He said he'll call in scripts to Wal-mart and that's there's an emergency yadda yadda.
To make matters worse, I kept calling him Sir. No, he's DR. I'm a Dr's wife, I should friggin know better. But every time I opened my mouth, Sir, fell out.
He was very nice. He guessed her age to be around 4 or 5 OR she could just have really good teeth for her age (She's at least 5 or 6) He asked about the puppies and encouraged me to worm them ASAP, said they're old enough.
But, all I keep thinking about was that wrapper falling to the floor. From my PERSPECTIVE, he threw away meds instead of giving them to the dog when he realized I couldn't pay that day...... and, that I kept calling him Sir (I actually only SAID it about 2 or 3 times but still).
I left, wanting to cry some more.
I got home, killed zombies for about an hour, then gave up on the day and went to bed.
Got up to pick the girls up from work, then I went back to bed.
Yesterday sucked. BUT, we took care of business.
I slept on my stomach all night, so I woke up with my knee swollen and sore It will work itself out, for the most part, after I move around some.
I have a feeling today will suck too though.
