      Paypass.

Anyone heard of it? It's this unbelievably stupid thing that some stores are doing now, including Subways and gas stations in our area...

Basically, you have a chip card or whatever. Instead of entering your PIN, you hold it up to a scanner that scans it. You no longer put in your chip or type your PIN. Man, you should've seen my dad fly off the handle when he realized how unsafe that is... Anyone can just go in with a stolen card and pay, since you no longer have to punch in any info!

Am I missing something, or are we really starting to sacrifice financial safety in order to save 30 seconds at the checkout?
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

It's just like using a Credit Card or Debit Card.

When the cashier asks you if you want to run it as debit or credit, tell them credit and you don't have to enter in a pin. I know at my work, you didn't even have to sign anything unless you buy something that's over $25 when you run it as credit.

Yeah I used to work at Subway and they didn't have to sign or enter a pin unless it was over $25.

Hmm, so you still have to put your PIN in for larger purchases... that's a bit better. But repetitive transactions could still put a dent in someone's bank account. |P

I lived in Hong Kong for 4 years and dozens of holidays before that and they have the first contactless paycard system in the world, instituted in 1997. I can honestly say that living there is ten times more convenient than anywhere else because it's takes half a second to brush my wallet across a scanner when I get on a bus or buy a coke.Taking the subway is a bajillion times easier too because you flash it once when you get on, and the second time you flash it, it knows how far you've gone and just figures out your fare right then and there.

I've also never heard of any big issued with stolen Octopus cards, or any security issues in fact. (That's what they're called.) Most people fill it up to about 40 bucks at a time at most. It's also good for price distinctions like senior and child discounts because you get separate cards.

Jen was 13 years old. A fairly normal girl. She spent a lot of time online.
One day, she made a new friend. He liked the same bands, worried about the same subjects.
They decided to meet at the local mall. She went. So did he.
Only he wasn't in junior high.

Yeah we got those credit cards here too now.
That was my first thought as well.
They say you can use it for anything under $100.

So fucking unsafe lol Go to 10 stores, which could take 20 minutes and use up around $1000 without even trying.

Prepaid ones like meakle is talking about are good though. Because you would only put a little bit on there at a time.
Just like I only load a small amount in to my paypal account at a time. Even if there was no security, it's still safer because you're using only that certain amount.

      Lol I know huh.

A $100 limit for each transaction isn't going to do anything when there's probably not a single store which doesn't have at least 10 other stores in close proximity.
      Besides country towns obviously.
