Post Your Fondest Childhood Memories Here

What is one of the fondest childhood memories that you can remember? Something you can look back on and it automatically brings a smile to your face.

For me, it's gotta be whenever my family and I went to visit friends in Brooklyn, New York. We'd spend the weekend there and go to the local park, go to Coney Island, take the subway everywhere and it'd just be a great time all around!

As a kid, you sort of seem to filter out anything bad and everything is generally great and perfect (at least it seemed that way to me ). So the bulk of my memories from early childhood are great ones.

I'd love to hear about yours.

Whenever I was like 12, on Christmas Eve, my sister, brother and nephew were over at our moms house, we were all just chillin, my sister and nephew went back home while my brother stayed the night (he was like in his first year of college and was on a break for Christmas) and at around 11pm the 3 of us went outside, we had a HUGE blizzard that Christmas. We live right off a main road, and no cars were on it, obviously, it was snowing like crazy, we had like 12 inches of snow at the beginning of the night and we were all running in the middle of the street, across it there is like offices and past that is a huge field, we were having snow ball fights in the field, and running around, falling in the snow, etc. Anytime a car would come along on the main road (not that often) we would all lay in the middle of the street (even my mom lol) and it was just the best time ever, i remember it so well. We stayed outside for like 2 hours...good times.

Hahaha, awesome. Sounds like it must have been an incredibly fun time.

I loved blizzards and snowstorms when I was younger (and nowadays I'm starting to find them fun again, actually). My friends and I would always try to build an igloo in my backyard, but we never could figure out how to get the ceiling part of it to STAY ON. We found snowmen tricky too, but at least we managed to make one successfully after several failed attempts

I seem to have filtered out the good memories and focused on the bad :hmm:

My best memory was of being about 7 years old. My parents almost violently fought every day back then, so I would escape to the park which was near our house. There was a HUGE slide and at dusk, the telephone lines would be overcrowded with black birds for as far as the eye could see. I would listen to them whistle until dark. I came to be able to mimic them perfectly.

When I was 4 or 5, I was coloring in a Snoopy coloring book with my mom. She colored the snow yellow and I told her it was suppose to be white and she replied that Snoopy peed in all of it

      Those are my 2 favorites.

Fighting off a group of boys with a bamboo pole, proceeding to get tied up to a tree then having the boy I liked back then untie me.
South Korea was an amazing part of my childhood.
One time we snuck into the golf ball receptacle at the driving range and had a picnic, stealing peoples balls at the same time.
Or maybe just finding little club houses, jumping off of stuff and generally exploring.

Picking blackberries in Texas with a friend is another treasured memory of mine.

These are all great! I know life can have its downs and all, but I wanted to make this thread sorta to keep the good times afloat.

I'm sure there's something, some memory we have all cherished and enjoyed about our lives. If not during childhood, then maybe something more recent. You are welcome to share those as well!

When I was 5 in kindergarten class, we used to get milk during "story time" and one day, i wanted more chocolate milk, so I pretended that there was no milk in the carton, and I went up to my teacher and was like "there's no milk in this carton" and she was like "oh here have mine, I wonder what that's all about." so I drank two chocolate milks that day. The next day she came up to me and said I wouldn't have milk that day because I lied to her. LOL.... I couldn't believe I got away with that even at 5 I thought she must be stupid. lol

Also, this is a weird one. I'd get bored during story time and I'd go the bathroom and get paper towels, make them wet, and stick them undre my armpit. Then I'd go to class and eat it, lol. Idk. One day I took a friend with me and told her to do the same, then I told her to eat it, she gave me the strangest look, lol. I DON'T KNOW. Needless to say, she went on to be popular, and I was a misfit.

My fondest childhood memory would have to be one moment when I was 7 years old. I was walking up the hill from my house towards my piano teacher's place while contemplating a problem I had with the concept of memories. I didn't know how I could be certain that the memories I had of previous moments in my life weren't put there by other people or simply made-up in my mind and illusionary. I reasoned that the only moment that I could be certain beyond a doubt was real was the one that was happening right then. So I paused in my walk up the hill and committed every aspect of the current moment I was in into memory. That moment, I reasoned, I knew beyond a doubt was real and so if I remembered it later on in life I would know for certain that at least some memories were true and not just mere illusions of the mind.

      Awesome I love huge snowstorms.

Here are a few of mine that come to mind:

Swimming at the lake with friends in the summer and then walking barefoot along the pavement at sunset. Skating on that lake in the winter and getting pulled behind the Argo in sleds, especially if there were at least two of us and they were like bumper cars.

I only saw my cousins from my Dad's side about once or twice a year, but often when they came over, we would all go out and play a big game of hide-and-go-seek tag. I think we had to do it in teams because it covered an area of about a few acres in the woods.

There is a steep hill near our house, and one winter when I was about 7 or 8, it was covered in ice. My brother (a few years older than me) and I found a couple of foot-long nails and used them to climb the hill. At the top, I slipped and he had to grab my hood to stop my fall, nearly strangling me.

I had makeshift forts all through the woods and spent a lot of the time hanging out in the forest with my dog.

BrotherA and I got along really well and often spent time together, but BrotherB (a couple years older than BrotherA) and I were always fighting... but whenever BrotherA and I got into a fight, I have memories of BrotherB jumping in to defend me.

When I was about 11 or 12, I went to see fireworks with my best friend and her sister. The only part I clearly remember is sitting in the back seat with the two of them on the way home. I was in the middle and they put their heads on my shoulders and fell asleep. It was just one of those super warm fuzzy moments.

When I was around 9, my best friend and her cousin and I played that game where you ring someone's doorbell and run. She tried it on her next-door neighbour, but was a little late in running. We barely made it into her backyard to hide, but then we thought the guy was following us, so we ran around to the other side of her house and climbed the fence and ran down the street. We were trying to think of how we could possibly get past him when we went back home, when we thought we saw his car driving down the road toward us, so we took off running. It wasn't him and the car pulled into the driveway behind us. My friend's cousin started getting hysterical and wanted to go home and confess our crimes, even though it was all our imagination and the neighbour never actually followed us anywhere. I think we took it all a little too seriously.

We used to go camping in Cape Breton every year when I was a kid. We often stayed in a campground where on a couple of occasions I met a blond kid about my age and we played ball together. We liked to visit a Mi'kmaq store a few miles down the road in Whycocomagh and once I bought a drum that I still keep on display in my room. A lot of the time was spent on our land far back in the hills. There were a lot of mint leaves in the area and the smell always reminds me of Cape Breton. There was an old foundation in the field where we camped, and a few hundred metres away in another field there was a house where a nice old lady lived by herself. We visited her every time we were in the area and she always made us tea. I recently started drinking a lot of regular tea with coffee whitener, the way she used to make it, because it reminds me of those visits. She died a few months ago :<

I remember regularly going to see my great-grandfather with my grandparents, when I was about 3 years old, and sharing chips with him.

And in high school, I remember regularly hanging out in the library with a small group of friends on free block and sometimes at lunch. I had a pretty big crush on one of the guys, and he and I and another guy spent a lot of time together and grew pretty close.

Speaking of that last memory, I also remember hanging out with the two of them and my best friend at Tim Horton's at 1am after seeing the third PotC movie the day it was released in theatres. We had the whole place to ourselves and just hung around drinking coffee and reminiscing for hours. So freaking awesome.

I love this thread and holy crap this is long and rambly sorry guys :<

Oh god, this one's gonna embarrass me. But I actually somehow still recall this memory

Somewhere during my toddler years, my mom would always sing the same two songs to me around bed time. There first one was one about cute chirping birds. The second one was about a doll that comes to life or something. I loved the chirping birds song, but the doll one freaked me out. x_x lol

To be honest, as a child, I was always scared of something. However, some of my best memories involve me just doing what I want to do despite the fear, simply because I want to live life and share amazing experiences with the people around me. Yea, but that list of ex-fears can get pretty extensive and a bit embarassing xD
