implanted memories are hilarious! post yours here!

so i'm dreaming that i see my friends door open and go inside and instead of him it's a walrus wearing his clothes. i am shocked but then remember: "oh that's right, he did that government program where you give your body to victims of oil spills and you get theirs. what a charitable guy!"

post your funny ones. if you don't get it read on...

implanted memories are where, upon waking, you realize that the memory isn't from real life and couldn't have been from the dream. like you see an old rotting barn and you remember that it was where you learned to play the guitar when you were younger. upon waking you laugh and realize you don't know how to play the guitar nor did you ever spend any time in a barn when you were younger. or you enter a dream and in it you are at home thinking about the past weeks events. none of these events are from real life. clearly you are thinking about implanted memories as dreams cannot last a week! or you see your car and it's blue and you remember dying it that color with food coloring but then upon waking you remember the rest of the dream and the part where you walk out and see your car came right after a part where you were fighting aliens in space so you couldn't have also been dying your car in the dream.

there are so many funny ones! they are memories that are complete fiction but your brain implants them in your mind to make the dream seem logical. it also works for explaining things like emotion: i dreamed i was watching tv really loud and was worried it was going to wake people up. then i remembered that someone else i know used to watch tv louder than this all the time in this building and it never woke anybody up. this made me not so worried. the building never existed and the person who used to watch tv never had anything to do with any of this, i barely even know them. my brain just fabricated the memories to match up gaps in the story.

it does this for sequence of events too. like you're dreaming you're at a new job working as a plumber and you have a memory of quitting your old job at a shop when in reality you still work at a shop. that way dreams can seem to span many hours or even days or more.

i'm always writing dreams down and i start to write down what i was thinking about a certain memory and often pause to put the word "implanted" in parenthesis next to it to clarify that it's a thought that didn't actually happen in the dream.

I had one just last night, it's not hilarious though, just random.
At some point I was watching a movie that was starting on TV, and it had one of those intros like a TV show would have, and I think it was something fantasy with some warriors or stuff fighting through woods and it had Brad Pitt in it too, and while watching this intro I realized I must have seen it before because I knew it by heart, like you see an ad on TV and know what comes next after each part of it. XD

I've had these before. I just can't think of any examples and I don't think they are usually as funny as your walrus image. Thanks for the thread though because now next time I have one, I'll remember that there is a term for it and remember to mention it.

I have these all the time, but I can not think of any funny ones right now. I will have to keep a look out for them and post them

Yours is really funny, got to love how the dream makes us except something unreal like that.

Yeah these are the kind of things that make me rationalize running around with super powers in dreams and not realize its a dream. basically goes like this

Wow I can fly!!!!!! Oh yeah thats right I always had this ability because of the bump I took on the head a few years ago.
I accept that my reality is always a dream so if something changes I know I'm right.

ha ha! love it! justifying the impossible in dreams is almost always funny. and is almost always, without exception, a poorly thought out justification lol!

Good thread.I believe I have a bunch of these in my dream journal so I'll post them later.I had one just today though so here it is:

I looked myself in the mirror and I saw some tattoos on my chest, back, arm, and wrists.I thought to myself "I've never noticed this cross on my chest or this scorpion on my back, when did I get these?".Then it came to me: "ohh, yes,of course,my mom allowed me to get them when I was younger".It made perfect sense to me though I was sad because I didn't like them anymore and some of the colourful ones on my back were fading.

hey that ones really funny! especially because you would see your tattoos every day for years if you got them when you were younger lol! good stuff!

      Had one last night.

I was sitting around with my mom and a friend and a baby. They were telling me that the baby was mine and I was arguing that it couldn't be mine because I didn't remember giving birth or being pregnant. Then one of them said, "don't you remember your water breaking?" And suddenly I had a very vivid memory of being at home, pregnant and my water breaking until it flooded the living room and my friends had to wear wader boots to carry me out. So back to the dream, I remember this and admit that the baby really is mine. I didn't question that I was the mother after that, but I never really accepted the baby.

rofl! that is hilarious! yeah that is one very tricky implanted memory to make you think you had carried a baby for nine months and even given birth!!! and what a funny scene, flooding the living room lol! thanks, that made me laugh.

Well, this one isn't all that funny, but... it's in my DJ for today. Basically, I pulled a memory from a comedy I watched yesterday, IRL, for something in my dream, but was certain I was a senior in high school still. I'm a junior in college now! xD

I guess if I'm still dreaming about high school now, I'll be dreaming about college when I'm thirty. >.>

nice! probably, you spend so much time thinking you're in a certain frame of titles for whatever stage of life you're in and then for the next ten years you dream about it!

Mine are never funny... generally I remember stuff like being called from school and having to go out, a family member telling me to go out with them and then ending in whatever scenario I'm at, and stuff like that <.<

my implanted memories are never funny, but I constantly will be in some weird place and think WAIT, ive been here before in another dream! This happens after waking up that I actually realize that ive seen it before, but shortly after i realize that I realize, after racking my brains, that I cant remember a dream where Ive dreamed about that before! like, in a recent dream, there was this tiny, very friendly community with houses in a semicircle. everyone was on their front porch knitting and eating and talking. they waved like they knew me, and i waved back because I knew them. I recognized the place, i was sure I had dreamed of it before. upon waking I realized I never did o.o

wow that's really cool! implanted memory of a dream that is fictional. as far as i know that's never happened to me. i wonder if extremely consistent dream journaling would produce this effect over time? like since i'm always writing down my dreams and frequently thinking in real life "oh yeah i dreamed about going to this market last week." or something similar, maybe that will eventually lead to dreaming similar thought processes. the example you give sounds very peaceful and serene.

yeah, it happens constantly. it happened to me last night in this dream where i was on a balcony in an ENOURMOUS room, and below me was lava, but it was actually fake, I was sure I recognized it, but I woke up and I realized i had never seen anything like it. and yes, it would have been very peaceful and serene if there had not been a kidnapper chasing me in a white van. but when I remembered the community, I somehow remembered that they had helped me once. i wonder if somewhere, in some parallel universe, they did? o.o

yeah i'm pretty confident that there are thousands of parallel universes. it wouldn't surprise me if every dream we have effects some universe somewhere. or better yet if everything we do effects one. it would explain deja vu, and all these implanted memories. maybe it's other universe(s) effecting us!

oooh... deep stuff, man! but yes, somehow that makes a whole lotta sense. maybe in some other universe, the things that happen in our dreams are real there. and in that universe, the things they dream are reality in this one.
