I don't know about you, but I'm tired of seeing the same 2-3 adjectives used for positive things over, and over, and over.. when someone- these days, rarely- uses the word "swell" you think "Leave it to Beaver" 1950s, right? and when you see "radical" it brings to mind the 1980s? well here I am a 20 something in 2011 and I can't help but notice there are just two words that just about everyone uses to describe something positive: "awesome", and "epic". I for one am SICK TO DEATH of these words. there are so many other words to express your fondness for something! why are we all using the same TWO goddamn words? what do you think about this? have you noticed? are you also tired of these words? never thought of it until now? tell me! any thoughts on this at all, semantics, history, whatever- welcome! I want to know more about this :)

I tend to use 'amazing' a lot and it bothers me when I use it. I try to use other words where appropriate. The problem is that most other words that come to my mind have extra baggage... I mean they wouldn't be 2 separate words if they had the exactly same meaning. More often I can't find any word that would adequately describe the idea I'm trying to convey, so I end up having to settle for a word I feel I use way too often like 'horrible' or 'terrible'. It actually bothers me a lot. I get OCD pretty badly while writing, especially when I'm paying attention to it like now.

I was thinking of this yesterday as I was listening to the Jim Rome show. During some of the breaks they would say "Jim Rome in a word is Epic". I'm guilty of it myself, but I think it's time for everyone to move on. I say we bring back "swell" and "nifty" because I've been playing waaaay too much fallout recently. And don't forget about "bad ass".

When I think something's good, I usually say "cool" as my most nonchalant word, but when something's extra good, I say "sweet". Then "awesome" after that. I hate how people have destroyed the word "epic", so I steer clear of using it.

For EVERYONE I know lately, the "go-to" adjective is "fantastic." All of my professors use it, my friends use it too much, and I hear it all the time in recent movies and on TV. Fantastic: It's the silent killer (of my soul.) Just because a word sounds more meaningful than "good" doesn't mean you should overuse it to death -.- It's also a common sarcasm word. "Oh fantastic." I despise that word now.
