Haha, thanks. I am almost certain that if I survived the first month, the next 11 months will be a breeze since I already have established a new habit.

I managed to not masturbate for about six months three years ago; it gets a lot easier as time passes because your body adjusts and your libido decreases day by day.
Wouldn't do it again, though. Don't know if it was an illusion, but I had the feeling that my hormonal balance sucked really bad during those months.

I actually started similar attempt at the start of this year as well, though I'm not planning to go without for a year, just at least a month, and after that as long as I feel like. The biggest gap in masturbation I had in 2011 was mere three days.

I've read that masturbating and porn fucks up brain chemistry. Whether that's true or not, I don't care, but it would make sense. I've read positive reports from others that had quit it, so I'm going to give it a try and see it for myself. The worst thing that could happen is that I get a few wet dreams and save a hell of lot of time that would have been spent unproductively just jerking it.

So yeah, OP, I'm with you. As for now, I've actually not even struggled that much so far. Only tip I can give is to be in the now and fully focus in whatever you're doing. You could also figure out some easy alternative thing to do when the urge hits. I play games, but some other even better alternatives would be stuff like meditation, stretching, working out, etc.

Yeah don't worry, I'm being critical, I'm not fully buying it. But I'll see for myself, because I've heard positive things about quitting masturbation from sources that are not definitely not religious as well. I view this as an experiment. Besides, like I said there is literally not much downside for trying out for a month or even a couple. Even if I notice no effect I'll never go back to the amounts I used to do (1-2 times per day), because it's just a waste of time. I've noticed that it has become more of a compulsion for me, like I'm not jerking it due to actually being horny, but because I'm used to.

I would believe that porn is not good for you, but I would seriously doubt that normal amounts masturbation is bad for you.

Masturbation is achieving orgasm. That's it, so is sex. If masturbation is unhealthy, so is sex.

I will not attempt such a feat, as I would be setting myself up for a huge failure.

It's a biological function. You can't form a "no eating" habit, a "no pissing" habit, or a "no sleeping" habit. You may have been given the mistaken impression that you have control over when, or if, you masturbate -- but you don't. Males of the human species must expel sperm at regular intervals. Even if you stop voluntarily masturbating, your body will produce wet dreams and you will ruin many pairs of underwear. So let me give you some advice: save yourself from a year of mood swings, hormonal imbalances, and risks of developing cancers. Not to mention the fact that no matter how it goes down, you will feel like shit after all is said and done. Just jerk your dick.
