The problem with linux is ONLY the hardware support, no profit is expected when supporting an open source project, so companies along with software developers just don't mind keeping on windows. The NT kernel DOES suck though. There are still conventional vulnerabillities consisting it like buffer overflows, being found and patched with delay. That doesn't happen to linux because the whole world works on it and problems are immediately solved. There are still botnets out there expanding with early nt exploits. About windows 7, I never liked it. I think it's because it's kinda hard to operate, compared to windows xp for example. They've removed other stuff aswell, like telnet, so I think it sucks too, but it could be just me.

      Windows 8.

Err... It looks like an iPad. It's trying to be an iPad. Stop that, windows, I need something that isn't an iPad.

Microsoft has been playing catch up with Apple right off the rip. Ya'll gawkin' and geezin' baby.

That being said, I might give Windows 8 a try. On what type of device, I do not know.

Actually, for the first time in awhile, Apple is starting to fall behind the curve.

Guess they're too busy lawyer-ing up all the time to actually innovate these days...

Really though, Microsoft has done decently keeping up the past 10 years while under 3rd party review due to anti-trustlitigation, how do you think they'll do now that the consent decree has expired?

EDIT: I'm not saying the suit was a bad thing - just pointing out that it was what produced the opportunity for Apple to succeed in the first place.

Like I had mentioned earlier, the window can take up to a minimum of 1/4 of the screen, if you just slide it all the way to either ends of the screen, it'll vanish and there wouldn't even be an icon on the taskbar showing a program is opened if you're using an app (or you can just switch to the main screen instantly by pressing the windows button).

There might be tons of other problems, like there are for every new released thing, but I feel that Windows 8 has its pros too. They have split up searching into category, unlike how we usually search on Windows 7 and all your files, programs are displayed at once. Searching on Windows 8 is split up into apps, files and tools I think. At first I thought it was a hassle till my friend pointed out that it was coded that way to speed things up. I recalled back and indeed searching was done very fast, almost within a split second.
Macs have had both of these things since OSX, at least, probably before.
I was seriously astounded when I changed back to Windows 7 (last I used was XP) and basically nothing had changed. Searching takes FOREVER, seriously ridiculous and there's no real quick window change capability.

If MacOS had more compatibility with programs I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Hopefully well enough to get me back into the consideration of Windows. I haven't been remotely interested in anything they have done since XP -- and that was YEARS ago. I really would like to jam with one of their all-in-one devices (from Sony or Lenovo) -- but I'm not sure Windows 8 offers me anything special in that regard. All I have heard about the OS from people who matter (aka -- those who know what they are talking about) have gave it quite mediocre reviews.

I've been on computers since I was three years old. I started out on a Tandy 386 -- which is older than almost everyone that posts on these forums. I've done about everything you can imagine on any platform and I have never had a machine run smoother than the MacAir I got a year ago. It is simply a pleasure to have for the price and I wouldn't have it any other way. I know that this investment will be good for at least three more years. I have never had a Windows product that was worth the investment I initially made two years down the road.

      Just my 2 cents.
