So if you don't reproduce, does it make you less of a living thing? If you're in a coma or in a bad accident and you lose your limbs, does it make you less of a living thing? |

I'm sorry that it's a scientific explanation from Google instead of the answer you were looking for. I posted it in the lounge, not extended discussion, what do you expect? But I think it really is that simple, we're alive because we are. No deep meaning or reason, it just is. |
|
I know, I learnt it when I was 9, it was in my science textbook, the differences between living things and non-living things. But it's hard not to think so much when we have 60,000 thoughts a day. |

There are many theories as to the meaning of life, but I don't think that the OP wants to have a discussion about the deep question. Otherwise, he would have posted this in ED. Though if that is the case, the better place for it is senseless banter I should think. |

I just typed out an awesome post that explained it all...... every fucking bit of it...... but I accidentally erased it or some shit, and it's gone..... sorry guys..... it was all there..... I don't feel like typing it all out again. |

Well perhaps if he puts a little explanation on the end of his post I wouldn't have question him on what he's trying to say. |

If someone is born with a defect that stops them from growth, reproduction and .....functional (not sure what this is, looks like the sentence is cut off). |
|
"The condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death" |
|
I don't see your point.... |
|
I'm just saying reproduction and functional activity doesn't necessary mean the definition of life. Whereas the definition marks all four points as the meaning of life, I don't agree with two of the points mentioned. |
