      Vengeance killing and vigilantism.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

And why would you particularly despise vigilatism, Taosaur?

EDIT: And not for political/lawful reasons, like "If everyone resorted to vigilantism there would be chaos" Crime is unlawful period, and vigilantism is crime, but why despise it particularly?

Speeding? You're joking right? Do you realize how many HORRIBLE drivers there are out there? It's like the DMV just starting passing out license without even looking at who they were giving them to. Do you realize how many lives are taken because of accidents caused by speeders? How many are saved because Police stop speeders??? And all you get is a ticket. The only time you get jail time is when you decide to be an idiot an start a high speed chase (I'm a HUGE fan of high speed chases, by the way. ), and when you have something in your car like a weapon (when you don't have a permit) or drugs. (The drugs are the US. I don't know how law enforcement handles drugs in other countries)
I'm talking about getting a ticket for 8 mph over the speed limit. That's just pure bs. Most speed limits are unnecessarily slow (at least where I live). For instance, a 25 mph speed limit on a 4 mile long straight a way... And there's virtually no pedestrian traffic at any time. I think I've seen 3 people walking along the road at most.

As for the drinking, the U.S. has the highest drinking age on the planet. I think this actually encourages unsafe drinking behavior because of how many people have to now break the law in order to enjoy a few drinks. If the drinking age were the same age that you can join the military and get killed in some shitty war, then 3 years worth of people would now be able to go to bars and legally enjoy their drinks. I also think that being in a setting like that would encourage more responsible drinking than at a house party or w/e.

Disagree if you want, it just really grinds my gears.

Where'd you hear that? For me, we can get our permits at 15, but our license at 17 (or something like that).

True, but I think that is because everything is farther away and our public transportation isn't too good.

I swear, anyone tries ANY shit in my vicinity will immidiately be shanked Altair-style.

I there is interesting reading about vigilantes, and it is suprising how much you can scare a criminal by simply making him the prey. Police are predictable, but when someone hunts you a different mode kicks in, and you no longer have the time for crime, or sleep, knowing you have some seriously pissed people after you. And you are not getting a lawyer, getting a trial or going to prison. Straight ticket to hell.

When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. When a criminal hits, he has all the planning and preparation in the world on his side. Even if the person has a gun, the civilian is still at a disadvantage. Nobody knows who you are, where you live and if you are armed or part of an organization. Besides, the way they work is they leave no witnesses. If you get away, nobody knows where to look. And you always feel like you have plenty of leeway after arrest with the court order, trial, prison and such.

And then people say the death penalty is too much. Well basically the criminal is safer than the civilian. Civilians get hit by virtually invulnerable criminals, who after arrest get a comfortable life of reading, healthy food and leisurely hobbies. So shoot the bastard while he's loose for God's sake.
      Uh , criminals are civilians.

      Smoking pot.

In reality, I find it deplorable when a government (that shall remain nameless) stops another country from becoming a real democracy because they planned to nationalize their industries, and then enplaces a puppet government that has deathsquads and secret prisons, and tortures, disappears or pubicly executes the whole family of dissidents. That one gets to me.

I also find it criminal when the major executives of corporations pay themselves so much money the industry can barely survive and you get what's happening in the US right now.

Oh yeah, and health insurance companies. They are just criminals on their own.

Child rapists suck a lot, too.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.
