I can't ever seem to see these things. Do you have to look at just the right angle or what?

Heh. I was the last of my close friends who was able to figure these things out, when I was younger. I used to get so fuckin frustrated because I could never see them. I've just recently (within the last few years) been able to start making them out. Some of them are much easier to see than others.

They are like 3D pictures. There is a foreground and a background. If you focus your eyes to where you're looking into the background, the foreground (which is where you find the main picture) pops out at you. One you see them (as the saying goes) you'll shit bricks. Lol. It's amazing how these seemingly random images hide 3D pictures inside of them.

I used to do this with ease, but now it makes my eyes feel shitty.
      Also, on topic picture:

What does your picture show Onerionaut? I can see the 3D, but it's kind of abstract. Are there dolphins, or penguins?

      Penguins.
And that comic is hilarious. Lol.

Abra, I'm trying to figure yours out, but it's really small. I feel like I'm going to turn myself inside out, just trying to make out the picture. Lol.

      WOOT!!! I saw yours Oneironaut!!!

I closed my dominant right eye with my hand, then pulled the outer edge of my left eye to make my vision squinty and I sawwwwwwww....

      SPOILER BELOW
Why does my Spoiler tags never work?

You need to put it like-

. You have to include a spoiler title mistah. :3 Also, fixed below.

      Spoiler for .:

Now I'm going to go try it on the others....

The first Green image looks like: arrows or dildos lol, like genie lanterns, and like people "running or dancing" at an upward and rightward angle

I see nothing with the woman and robot other than their direction changes and the woman looks scarier to me at the end of each line.

The one with the Tiger and sharks and moon ALMOST look like something to me. Sometimes it looks like witches flying, other times reindeer and Christmas lights.

And now my eyes are exhausted and need a break
      I'll try the rest later...

Hehe. Actually, they are a bunch of penguins hanging around, and one sticking his head up out of a hole in the ice, but I could see how they could be interpreted as aliens. Heh.

ROFL! I TOTALLY do NOT see penguins. I see row after row of "greys".

I usually suck at most of these things. But it sometimes helps if I make myself slightly cross eyed or make my vision out of focus.

Good one O. I saw it right away What can I say? Sometimes seeing these pictures is like trying to lucid dream. For some it comes naturally, some have to work at it and others just can't seem to grasp how to shift their vision correctly to see the hidden images.

That's pretty much the trick to it. You have to make your vision out of focus. If you are looking straight at the picture, in focus, you won't see the vision. You have to look into the "back" of the picture, almost as if you are looking through it, and be patient. After a few moments you'll see an object or two that 'stands out' from the background. Once you see it, you'll get an idea of how the foreground differentiates itself from the background, and it will make the rest of the picture easier to see.

my techinique to see them was to put my face right up to the book and slowly pull out and the image would be there. I used to be able to see it so well I could blink and even look around instead of keep my eyes fixed. But on the screen I dont want to do that for obvious reasons...

I remember I brought this illusion book to school and I was the shit for a few days. Even the teachers liked it lol

Here's another one. I figured I'd find one with the answer posted as well, so those who can't see it right off the bat can see what the image actually looks like, and it might help them find it a little easier.

      Spoiler for Answer:

Yeah @ grasshoppa. I heard that was the easiest way to do it, but it never used to work for me. I used to do that over and over (bringing my face closer to and further from the page, trying to find the sweet spot) but I was never able to get it that way. Finally, I was able to get the hang of just 'relaxing' (unfocusing) my eyes as if I was kind of zoning out, and the images just started to pop up.

      [Edit]
      And another one:

Easy, I can see any of those things in half a second. I just diverge my focus by sheer will, no poking the nose into the screen required. lol Just takes practice.

      omg I LOVE Magic Eyes!!!

The trick with stereograms is the focusing of your eyes. Your point of focus wants to be somewhere BEHIND your screen in order to see what's on your screen. Imagine that your screen is the glass of your window, and you're looking at whatever is across the street. Well, you don't want to focus out that far. But you want your focus to be somewhere behind the glass, while simultaneously looking at the glass.

I couldn't do these up until my freshmen year when I was determined to be able to. I would look at them a bit every night with no success until one night after finishing a paper at 3am. I was so tired that my eyes kept going out of focus (this happens sometimes when I'm completely exhausted) and crazy shit started to pop out of the screen at me. So if you know what I'm talking about, try to cultivate that improper focus. Also, it helps if you use a stereogram that has the three dots at the top. The goal is to adjust your focus such that the two dots on the side begin moving toward one another until they overlap. This overlap of images from both eyes is what's going to make the image (and everything else in your life) 3d.

You can also practice by holding your pointer fingers out in front of you, then doubling their images until they overlap one another and pop out into 3d.

Spoiler for A guy I watch on deviantart who makes cool stereograms:

You can also make your own photographs 3d by duplicating it and putting two of the same image side by side, then getting them to overlap. Whammo!

Actually no. If I recall correctly (I do know a thing or two about stereograms and the cross-eyed scenery pics or whatever, but not.. this) they need to be slightly different angle. Like 3 degrees.
