      High Concentration of Smart People!

I'm not one to brag, but I'm not an idiot. And what makes me happy is that everyone else on this forum isn't either - its a collection of intelligent, polite and nice people. I'd accredit that to the DV team and the community.

I'd just have to say I enjoy places like this on the internet that allow for a serious or 'advanced' discussions, for lack of a better word. And the fact that everyone is nice and helpful is actually kind of a change from alot of places on the internet. That isn't to say people who aren't of a ridiculously high intelligence can't sustain intellectual conversations; they can be just as good.
Besides, I have friends of all mental ranges. And I don't even really know what the point of this thread IS exactly, but I'm just glad theres no "gg noob u suck" and stuff, as entertaining as it can be.

Oh hey, I just thought of a point of this thread: How many of you here type with correct grammar outside of this forum, such as on msn or other places, or even text/SMS messages? I used to type "lyk ths" alot, actually, but I was converted or changed, and I continued to use it on msn, and even text messages. Its almost a habit now. Some people think its arrogant, and over used, I guess it can be - I'm just curious about your thoughts.

      Ps, I'm not arrogant haha.

I mostly type with correct grammar online. Just a few words that aren't correct. Like 'dun'.

Well, I do like to spell stuff corectly, but I do say "wanna", and TTYL, and OMG (especially that one). Besides that stuff, I wanna spell stuff correctly and I try my best to make things sound good . BUT, I'm not as strict as if I was writing an essay, which I am sure is true for many of us.
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

I usually type with the correct grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. It often takes longer to type in text-speak than regular English. If you debate anything in ED, proper typing is a must if you wish to retain credibility. In my case, just typing naturally is the path of least resistance.

I think l33t (?) typers are MUCH smarter than me lol. There's no way I could even "text type" a lot of words kids use regularly these days.

I'm lazy about spelling now-a-days. If I'm unsure about something I just type "(?)". I don't care enough anymore to look it up (most of the time).

I use "lol" a lot and a few others, but that's about it. I do use smilies to convey emotion. When I write, I use a lot of short hand- most of which is personal: /w (common for "with"); L.U. ("look up"); RS ("research"); (?) ("unsure about what I heard, could be wrong") and so on.

When on forums, capitalization, and punctuation is important for me. When people run on and on and on without any line breaks, capitalization or punctuation, I want to pluck out my eyes and stomp on them :p

Generally, I use mostly correct grammar and punctuation on and off the forums.

My language always depends upon the intended audience and effect, d00d.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

I try to type correctly and what not. Sometimes it doesn't come good, but I try.

And then sometimes I try to speak 1337 but then I can't and start to wonder how others can...

Ah thats pretty much the same as me. I mean, I use 'lol' and 'lmao', and even 'gonna' and sometimes 'Ima' now and then, but like Taosaur said, it depends on the audience too. I guess I'm kinda like colloquial formal ?

      Was just wondering

DV actually has rules about grammar. If a post is full of l33t sp33k, it gets deleted, which gives the illusion of intellectualism. However, I know a number of us are way above average intelligence. Anyone else here a member of Mensa?

      Yes.

Typically, the corectness of my language in posts is directly proportionate to the seriousness of the post.

I pretty much always type with correct spelling/capitalization/punctuation/grammar. I don't worry about it quite as much if I'm IMing though, and I use common acronyms like lol, omg, etc...

I never use correct grammar on instant messengers. Those are made with the purpose of speed. Neither do I use incomprehensible abbreviations, for those too slow communication.

Basically, the only reason I use correct grammar on webforums is because it's the convention for communication, and in communication, it's of fundamental importance that the emitter and the receiver use the same code. It's also important to avoid ambiguity and misinterpretation.

You know, contrary to what some anal-retentive people think, communication has a purpose, other than feeling happy about it.

Story books are much overrated. If people really liked reading, they'd read actual content.

      ... now back on topic...
