      EEG Binaural

      Hey guys,
      So I've decided to make a 100 minute binaural track based on
      an EEG readout of a normal sleep cycle.

      I've started with the undertone ( F - 349.23hz )
      Then I started the first Alpha clip at 13hz above that ( 362.23hz )
      then 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7... all the way down through Theta into Delta
      at 1hz difference. I then oscillated the patern as follows:
      13 for 1 second, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.
      I am looping this one for about five minutes or so then next:
      12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.
      I'll loop this for another five or so going all the way down as follows:
      11 -> 6 -> 10
      10 -> 5 -> 9
      9 -> 4 -> 8
      8 -> 4 -> 8

      I will then loop the last ( 8 -> 4 -> 8 ) for a while then throw in
      some 9s and some 4,3,2, or 1 randomly to simulate sleep spindles
      and k complexes. They will get gradually more frequent and longer
      until finally I will oscillate between 4, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4 to simulate
      delta sleep. I will then go back up to, hopefully, bring the listener
      into REM.

      I just tried a short segment of the NREM-2 simulation and it sounds
      promising. Reminds me quite strongly of hypnagogic tones.

      I'll upload some screenshots and some sound clips when I finish.

      ~Wes

      Just an update, I set it up with the transition into delta and somewhere along the way
      it sort of just hit me and I got really tired. This may work

      I asked you about this in a different post, and now I find it here! Awesome.
      What EEG readout are you basing this off of? So this is designed for listening to while asleep; how will this be beneficial? How come you chose 349.23 as the base frequency, does it stay static the entire time? Do you use any background music/colored noise?

      13 for 1 second, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.
      So it stair steps up or down 1Hz a second? Would stair stepping rather than a smooth sine wave cause any issues?

      I set it up with the transition into delta and somewhere along the way it sort of just hit me and I got really tired.
      I love me some Delta .

      So you're doing this with Audacity? Is it time consuming or difficult to use?
      Sorry for the 20 questions xD. Good luck! Can't wait to hear some sound clips when you finish.

      Lemme break this up one question at a time lol.

      I am using example pictures from only sleep and health websites depicting the different stages as
      well as information about the frequency and amplitude of each type of brainwave. I then loop the
      waves, changing them in accordance with a hypnogram.

      The idea is for the track to guide your brain down through the first sleep cycle to make it easier, and possibly
      aid in wilding as you stay awake and the track tricks your brain into starting REM.

      I just chose 349.23 as it is an F Natural. Most BB Tracks use A 440 but I wanted to be different and yes the undertone
      track usually stays the same.

      no, I have seen it done, but I personally feel it interferes with the wave patterns.

      You are correct, a Sine pattern would be better, but unfortunately making a sine pattern is pretty difficult. The stair step isn't bad enough to cause issues though
      as it is barely noticeable.

      Sometimes, especially with some things like the previous question, trying to oscillate through the frequencies. I wanted to do this
      as that is what the brain does when it goes to sleep but I had to settle for an integral system instead. Overall though, I like it.

      Sure thing, I finished it last night it only took a couple hours. I'll definitely post some clips when I get a chance.

      Nice, sounds cool. I suggest you try out Gnaural just to see how it works. It's really easy to use and really quick to put a track together. The files are saved in text files so I'm gonna work on writing a program that outputs perfect sin/cos patterns. I'm still wondering how this is going to work for listening to while sleeping. I wonder if the track will guide the brain through the different levels of sleep, or if the brain will ignore the entrainment and do the same thing it does every night. Sounds interesting!
