      avoiding mirrors

I know this thread has been posted many-a time but i wanted to share an experience i had with mirrors and get some feedback on the experience and mirrors themselves.

The dream started in the exact way most of my lucid dreams start, I "woke up" and crawled out of bed. I checked the clock and the seconds on my digital clock were increasing by two instead of one so i knew that i was dreaming. Seizing this opportunity to experiment with mirrors, i walked into my bathroom prepared to see some freaky stuff. My hair had changed from its normal brown, medium length swoopy style to a bright green spiked Mohawk. The image was quite comical and this was the first time mirrors didn't scare me off so i continued to look. I touched my face and the moment i lifted my finger there was an indent in my cheek. Intrigued by this, i continued touching my face only to discover that my face (in the mirror) was completely malleable, much like clay. About a minute of laughing and playing with my face i noticed the light outside had turned from morning to midnight. the lights in my bathroom had dimmed and i grew worried. i looked out the window (i forgot what i saw) but i quickly looked back into the mirror.

The reflection had changed back into my normal self but something was not quite right. my eyes had begun to grow, ending up the size of grapefruits. i tried to look away but i was not physically able to. this, i imagine was when the dream turned semi-lucid. i was very afraid, my reflection had begun to warp into a skinny bug, like creature. it reached one of its arms to the mirror and the arm came out, coming closer and closer to my face. i felt a strong feeling of claustrophobia and i couldn't move or breathe. the creature that used to be my reflection was fully out of the mirror, and suddenly the perspective changed from me to the creature. without control, i took one of my "claws" and sliced a vertical cut down the real me's stomach. the expression of fear on my face was unimaginable, and thats when i woke up.

since then i have not tried to experiment with mirrors and altogether avoid them in lucid dreams. anyone else been scared into avoiding mirrors?

You have to be good in controlling dreams in order to face a mirror and seeing yourself. Usually the image won't look like you, i seen mine and i was a dark, scary woman. But i wasn't scared because at this time i knew how to control my dreams.

No problem, you can also know how you look like in dreams once you master this mirror test too. So usually i look like a dark scary woman, like the one in the movie "The ring" lol hair all messy and scary looking, but shorter hair and wearing all black/dark clothes. this is why people can't attack me in dreams, i also have good fighting, and dream controlling techniques.

This is why I don't mess with mirrors in dreams.

In my 5 or 6 lucid dreams, I looked in the mirror once. My reflection didn't look weird or anything. I even changed the way I look for fun. I'm only like 5'8, so I made myself a couple inches taller. Felt weird growing so fast.

All these weird, scary things that people talk about that happen to them in lucid dreams don't seem to happen to me. My dreams were also never unstable and I never had a problem controlling them.

Maybe I'm just lucky when it comes to dream control, I have a natural ability. I also have a natural ability to miss the most obvious dream signs, and very rarely go lucid, so I guess it evens out, lol.
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one...

I don't ever remember having a scary moment with a mirror in a dream. Then again I haven't ever focused on one/really even seen one. I think I made a important subconscious note that I never ever want to see a mirror in any of my dreams.

Most of the times when I look in the mirror, I look pretty normal. There were just a few times when I looked hurt or my face was red or even bloody. Sometimes when I looked into a taller mirror, I would see myself skinnier or smaller. Oh and once I morphed my face into a robot helmet in a lucid dream (and then my sister morphed into a Big Foot and tried to attack me. >_>). Other than that, nothing unusual to me.

why the hell would I look in a mirror when I can fly to the moon with Cheryl Cole?
      LD GOAL LIST

      1) Re-live the D-day landings like in the opening scene in 'Saving Private Ryan'. Arrive by landing boat, storm the beach, kill me some Nazis.
      2) A prolonged flying experience through beautiful landscape/scenery
      3) Have a 'nice' time with Chery Cole and Nicole Schwerzinger

Mirrors aren't inherently scary in dreams. You were prepared to see something scary in the mirror and you did - it's as simple as that. If you go into a dream with the expectation that the mirror won't be scary, then it won't. You don't need excellent dream control; it's all about expectation. I have had many, many dreams both lucid and non involving mirrors, and in almost all of them my reflection looked normal and nothing scary. (I did have one dream where I made my reflection disappear in a mirror while showing off to another DC who also knew it was a dream, then smoke started coming out the mirror and made me dizzy, but I quickly regained control and nothing further happened.)

Next time you see a mirror in a dream, don't be afraid. Plus, you may want to try walking through it.
