      MILD Success? A Lucid Experience.

I can't remember when I first learned of lucid dreaming, but I can remember when I decided to try. I was sitting in study hall, bored as usual, and surfing Wikipedia. One of the articles I came across was lucid dreaming. The next site I found myself on was none other then, Dream Views. I read around and decided that MILD would be best for me. Unfortunately my practice was sporadic at best and I wasn't getting any results. But since April 12th I've been on school vacation and every night have been practicing. And now, one week later, I have had my first taste of lucidity.

It was a little after 8 o'clock this morning. I was laying in bed not wanting to get up. The sun was pouring through the window, illuminating the room, making it vary difficult to sleep. I was rolling restlessly in bed, pulling my blanket over myself to block the sun, and then throwing them off when I got hot. I settled, laying on my right side, arm under my pillow, starring at my bedroom door. My mind started to wander. I don't know how long I thought, or for that matter what of. But then I realized something, I was thinking about a person who I'd never met. Then something striking came to thought, 'Am I dreaming?' I reached up and plugged my nose, and to my surprise, the air rushed right on through. I opened my eyes and sat up in my bed. My room looked just as I had left it, and it all look real. My heart was beating hard and I had a knot in my stomach, I was really excited. It couldn't have been more then a few seconds before a rush of weariness came over me. I slowly fell back on to my pillow and my eye lids felt like they were being pulled down. I fought the pull and tried to force my eyes back open. It worked. With a gasp my eyes opened wide and I shot back up in my bed. Just this time it was for real. I must have done 20 more reality checks that morning before reluctantly getting up. Now I can't wait to go to bed tonight, well after Doctor Who of coarse.

One question about mantras though. Is it important to keep the same mantra night after night, or can I mix it up every night?

Thanks guys for the great site

Congrats, I got a little taste a week or so ago, literally a few seconds, I think it's standard for most. Then I had a dream where I was RCing like crazy, I knew I was dreaming, but couldn't get lucid. Anyhow, keep it up, it gets frustrating, I can vouch for that, nothing for me since, but nothing worth while ever comes easy I reckon..!

Just noticed you put Lucid Count at 1/2, I'd still say it's at 1, lucid is lucid right..?

Lucid is lucid, but is a dream a dream? They come in all shapes and sizes. This one didn't feel like a well rounded dream, but more of a 'glitch in The Matrix' moment.

      Thanks for the response.

Hey Yourt23, welcome to DV and congrats on your first lucid! I'd personally count it as LD = 1, as long as you know you are dreaming, it is an LD, doesn't matter if you wake up a shortly after that or do some dream things.

About mantras if you think that one particular mantra works for you, better stick to it, especially in the beginning, because those things take time to sink to the subconsciousness. In my case, I think some things even took months, and some are still not quite there (in subconscious memory). So, one or two mantras will suffice in the beginning. Then you can always make up mantras and change them to fit the particular needs of the dream.

Congrats on the first lucid dream!
I agree with NyxCC, there's no half-lucidity to speak about, when you know that you are dreaming, even for a split second, it counts as lucid dream.
Though i am not much into MILD, i think it's better to keep the same mantra as long as it works, since it works like an auto-suggestion, and auto-suggestions are usually to be repeated from day to day.

Fine, I will fold, for now.

Also, I guess I will stick with one mantra for now

      Gratz on the lucid dream.

In my experience, stick with a mantra until you find it is a habit that doesn't require any thought. When you aren't conveying intention with it, that is a good time to change it up for a bit. I have found alternating every couple of months to be helpful - going between three favorites.
