FINALLY! After SIX months, my first - and a most awsome LD it was!

OK...It's 4:18 am local time and I just woke up from my first LD after "trying" since March. Well, it sure was worth the wait. I'm sure it sets no records, but it had to have lasted every bit of ten minutes. Plenty of time for a first one. I was completely lucid! It started off (pre-lucid) with me kicking off my shorts, like I often do. Sometimes I catch them in the air (in RL) but in my dream they ended up in a small pile of clothes on the floor of a strange room. When I bent down to retrieve my shorts, I had to sort through the clothes in the pile. There was a VERY sexy white lingerie outfit and a girl's panties. That was REALLY odd...next thing you know, I realize it's because I'm dreaming!!!

Fully lucid, and completely aware I'm dreaming, I started looking around the strange room. There was a bed, a dresser and two doors. Now that I knew I was dreaming and I could do whatever I wanted to without consequence, I started snooping through the drawers of the dresser looking for more sexy underwear, something I would NEVER do in real life! I didn't find any, and I realized I could be doing SO MANY other things that were more fun, so I started float-flying from one wall of the room to the other. I pushed off from a wall, and floated (and sometimes very artfully tumbled!) from one wall to the next. After several trips back and forth, I noticed I was leaving glowing green hand prints on the wall! Hey, I'm dreaming, what do >>I<< care, plus, it's not my house! So I kept on floating, and even patted the wall to cover it with green hand prints!

I wanted to go flying OUTSIDE. I tried to push myself through the sheet rock, but no, I couldn't do it. GOD! It felt so real when I pressed against it! I tried "running" at the wall at low speed, and almost hurt myself! It was a no go. I looked for a way out of the room. Two doors. One a closet with young boys clothes and ties hanging. The other? AHA!!! Out I float, turn left, and down the stairs! I pass by the kitchen entrance as I float into the living room, and I see two women, one, I thought SOUNDED like my wife, and the other female, I didn't immediately recognize. In the living room was another, slightly younger (maybe 30) year old female, and in the dining area (also adjacent to the kitchen) was a very lovely cat!

At this point, I decided to look at my hands, the "famous" experiment to do when LD'ing. WOW! Was that a trip!!! I had tapered, knobby fingers, and the shape was weird and the thumb poorly placed, PLUS I was looking at my LEFT hand palm and the thumb was on the RIGHT (backwards from RL). Totally confirmed I was LD'ing, and so off I went to pet the cat. Oh, BTW, I "decided" that I would be/remain invisible to the dream characters so I could listen to their conversations like a spy while petting the cat. Evidently this worked, because I floated around and passed right by both women in the kitchen and they didn't react at all. The cat, OTOH, did see me, and as it was VERY soft and friendly, so I settled down to pet it. It felt utterly real. It reacted JUST like a cat would in real life, turning its belly to me so I could pet it. Incredible.

The cat let me pick it up. I held it out so the dream characters could see it floating in the air! The woman in the kitchen who sounded like my wife, but didn't look much like her, and the woman who looked quite a bit like my sister Joanne, noticed the cat in mid air and realized for the first time that "I" was there, even though they could not see me! Watching their realization that there was a ghost-like presence in the room was hysterical. They didn't completely freak, but they were definitely disturbed by it.

I decided to return to my original plan and try and get outside to go flying. I had the same trouble with the glass living room window as with the sheet rock in the upstairs bedroom. I also was unable to pass through a screened window. After this I just decided to look around the house and take in the colors and details of the bed, pillows, tables, etc., and I found another cat (actually a kitten) to pet. As I was looking around rooms and checking things out and generally marveling at the "realness" of it all, I heard a thought pop up in my head saying, something akin to "This is utterly amazing, I hope I don't wake up!" and of course, I woke up!

Anyway, when I woke up I remembered every detail. My first thought was to get to the computer and share this experience. I was beginning to think that people who THOUGHT they lucid dream were delusional or misinterpreting an ordinary dream. Now I know better! I am doing the HAPPY DANCE this morning!

      WooooHOOOO!

^^" I wouldn't call people who thought they lucid dreamed to be delusional. There are short moments in the dream where they are lucid but lose lucidity when they are distracted by something. Lucidity could even last for only a few seconds so if the dream continues, remembering that moment might be hard. Nonetheless your lucid dream sounds awesome so congrats! I especially liked the part where you found the adorable kitten and how you scared the DCs with the floating cat. XD

Congrats man, that sounds like a truly awesome dream! Nice and long, with lots of awareness and decisions and observing the consequences of your actions, my favorite kind of dream. With practice you'll beat the walls/doors, the secret is just to "know" that they're not really there and are no obstacle at all, but that comes with experience.

Congrats DH, you will never forget this moment!
It's great that you got a good amount of time to explore the dream and really take it in!
As FryingMan said above, phasing and other dream control skills all become easier with practice, as you gain more confidence and experiment with different techniques.
Well done for sticking at it for 6 months, I'm glad it's finally starting to pay off!
I hope you're feeling motivated to keep incubating now - many more lucid dreams to come!

@Dawneye11: Well, after six months, you begin to wonder about the validity of the notion of LD's. Sorry. But it is human nature to question results that you yourself cannot replicate. Please don't be insulted, for no insult was meant. What I was TRYING to say (evidently ineffectually) is that what I once believed in and was beginning to doubt has now been proven to exist based upon my OWN first-hand experience. Please view it as a testimonial to all that everyone has ever written on the topic. Oh, and one other thing. I'm 61 years old. So for anyone reading this...it isn't too late. It just may take more time and effort.

@ FryingMan: I want to publicly acknowledge that FryingMan is, in large measure, the reason I was able to keep at it for 6 months. We correspond via PM and his own experiences and his extension of encouragement kept the "dream" alive that I might also have an LD to write about one day. How right he proved to be. Thank you, my friend!

@Dreamer: You have NO IDEA! I'm so excited I can hardly wait to tell my wife and family (when they wake up!). I've a new perspective now on what is possible when one simply puts head to pillow!

Wasn't it the old Penthouse letters (uh, or so I'm told ) that always began, "I never used to believe the forum letters were real, until it happened to ME:..."

Ah, shucks, you're welcome! That I have helped at least one soul achieve this unbelievably awesome experience means a lot to me. Keep dreaming! Always reach for recall, no vacations from recall!! Then when the lucid/awareness stars align, you'll be ready, and the party continues

Now you know it's real, and you know you can do it! More and more LDs are just a simple matter of time and some effort. I bet you feel like a bit of a fire has been lit under your butt now to find a way to get some more day work in, neh? . I recommend mindfulness. At it's simplest, it's really just "paying attention:" to yourself, your surroundings, your reactions, "am I dreaming?" Noticing when you've zoned out, acknowledging it, and quietly start paying attention again. With time, mindfulness becomes second nature, and like lucid dreaming you'll wonder how you could every have lived without it!

Thanks to all. I'm pretty stoked that my wife was excited and very accepting of the fact that I had had this experience. I let her read my lucid dream account in this thread, and she thought it was pretty cool. It really helps to know she is supportive of these efforts and not taking the position that lucid dreaming is some sort of fringe activity. I was a little concerned about this, but not anymore.

I wish I could convey in words all of the detail, actions, and excitement this experience engendered. As with so many things, it is ineffable...impossible to express with mere words...which is SUCH a shame.

Language is very poor in order to describe "beyond-the-physical" experiences.

I was actually supporting your statement hehe.

I have had so amazing experiences... seen so many things that I cannot describe neither.

You will find in some amazing lucid dreams to see colors or colored effects that you cannot even reproduce in words or not even with photoshop!

So, so true. It's a shame that we are relegated to mere words, because it is such a stunning experience, you feel compelled to share it. I myself went RUNNING to the computer, so thorough was my excitement! I quickly learned that no matter how hard you try, the description always falls WAY, WAY short of the actual experience. I never heard it put the way you did (above) - but that encapsulates the very phenomena in as few words as you are ever likely to read. I've never had an experience in which language failed me so thoroughly. How do you folks who have frequent LD's deal with the frustration of not being able to accurately set down an LD so you can share it with other like-minded folks??? I'm beginning to realize I may never ever find the words, and as a lawyer and "wordsmith" of sorts by profession, I'm astounded as to how inadequate I am in this regard!!

      Yup!

On an awesome dream I had, lucid, I saw some colors on the moon, amazing... beyond amazing, and could not reproduce with Photoshop nor with words.

Hopefully one day they will make us be able to download dreams as videos, lol, wouldn't that be awesome!
