      "DEILDing" within a dream

So I had this weird dream (some of it lucid) that I think is worth sharing...
No time to write the DJ on the site, so I'll be very short and just point out the relevant events:

      1. Woke up after 5 hours of sleep (because of my sister's kid - they stayed with us this weekend)
      2. After being awake for 3 more hours, decided to take a nap on a couch in my study room (not my bedroom) - the time was 8:35
      3. I wake up on the couch in my study because of more crying from the kid. Still feel tired. Wash face. I check the time, it's 8:30. Continue with doing normal stuff (computer, clean up). 'WAIT! 8:30 ?!? I'm dreaming! Sh*t, I must be oversleeping, I need to wake up... It must be like noon by now [based on the new recall I had]... I have things to do..."
      4. I wake up on the couch in my study. I'm still tired. I turn to the left, and mom and sister look at me (sitting beside the bed). "hmm, what are you doing here?" I say, barely opening my eyes. "It's late. You told us to wake you up, we were just about to do that," they reply. "What time is it?" I ask in a sleepy voice. "11:40" mom replied. I changed my mind, and decide that I need more sleep, and wanted to get back to that lucid. "I'm going to sleep some more".
      5. They went away, while I did a DEILD. To my defense I only turned automatically, eyes were mostly closed, and had many dreams recalled - IRL I had success with DEILDs that unlikely
      6. I visualize waking up at 8:30 on the couch that morning. It works, I wake up in that same scene on the couch.
      7. Start observing being lucid, the room, and think about goals. Even started levitating in the room a bit... Then I think, "wait, didn't I lock the door this morning when I went to take the nap?!? This, this means I was still dreaming when I woke up!" Again I started thinking that it might be very late, and I need to wake up.
      8. I wake up - this time for real. It's 10:02. The whole thing was that amazing and I felt well rested so I decided to record it instead of DEILDing IRL.
What do you guys think? Also, how many lucids should I count it as, in your opinion? I mean, I DILDed twice (at 3. & 7.), but was I actually lucid in that "successful DEILD" (at 6.)? I did have a lot of recall, even tasks and goals...

      Haha CLASSIC!

I would count as a new dream every time you realized you are dreaming or if you remained aware between 2 LDs, when you noticed a transition between them.

Looks like bunch of FAs that you turned into LDs. I have had a few of those, so fun!

WILDing/DEILDing while in a dream is so confusing to me. I often tell people in a dream to be quiet now or don't wake me up coz I'm going to WILD. And I can just feel my brain screaming "wait whut"?

So, you only woke up for real during 1 and 8? If so, that would mean you experienced only 1 dream so I would count it as 1 LD.

The dream only ends once you wake up for real. Having a false awakening after a dream is just a scene change of that same dream.

So, if you wake up for real after an LD and DEILD back in, that's 2 LDs, because you're lucid during 2 dreams. If you have a lucid false awakening after an LD, that's one LD because you're only lucid during 1 dream.

Sometimes it be tricky deciphering whether you woke up or real or had a false awakening. I decide whether I heard the background sounds I typically hear when falling asleep to tell if I woke up for real or not.

      Thanks gab!

Yeah, gotta love these weird FA chains! Plus, every time I do essentially a huge WBTB I get like 3-4 LDs... It's phenomenal - just 4 days ago I did this too, rather by my own design, and got 4 LDs (even better than these).

And, yes, I totally agree about WILDing in a dream - I do the same to "teleport" sometimes when I want precision. I just find a silent place to "sleep" in, and visualize where I want to go. But want's weird in this dream, is that when I "DEILDed" I didn't know it was a dream, only to realize this from the "inner dream"! haha

This would be 3 then - two DILDs and that "DEILD"... That DEILD had a transition like a normal DEILD would and I had to recall the previous dream - so weird to know in retrospect it wasn't real...

Edit (reply to dolphin to not double post):

Yes, only during "1" and "8". But I don't wake up* after every dream, especially during the dense morning REMs (in 3. I had a recall of one short and one long non-lucids, that must have occurred between 8:35 and 10:02 IRL - but during this time I didn't wake up - but does this make all of these one dream, even if they had totally distinct themes?). By that logic, if you have a DILD and then DEILD back without waking up completely it's still 1 LD even if the scene is different (most will rather treat it as two discrete dreams), but DEILDing back into the same scene, from fully woken up state would be considered 2 LDs.

Plus, after "3", I was in the void - which I usually treat as what divides two dreams - and slowly falsely "woke up" after.

Normally I would treat it as 2 LDs, because was I truly lucid if I didn't know that the DEILD was false? But it's very tricky, is it 1 or 3 instead?

Edit 2: *rather "notice waking up", but you know what I mean...

      Hi Dolpin

If you wake up between dreams and enter next one lucidly again, sure, it's a clear line between 2 dreams.

But what if you don't wake up completely? If you only realize that one dream has ended, you decide to just hang in there till next one shows. You are aware that you are in your bed, sleeping. All you see is gray emptiness and then you realize you are still "there and dreaming", or "aware" and you force some transition to happen or just wait for a dream to form around you and "stand up" into it.

Btw, this forced transition I'm doing is just a confirmation for myself that I am lucid. I already know I am, but this for me personally is just something that helps me "click" that I indeed am still in a dream or asleep, aware, waiting for one to enter.

I would say that every time you have transition or you "realize" you are dreaming, that would count as a new LD.

If there was a dream you never woke up from, you wouldn't be awake right now. You'd still be in the same dream.

Yes it was one dream. Dreams don't have to have cohesive themes.

Going into a void is a scene change, just like a false awakening.

It sounds like your DEILD was in a false awakening to me. I doubt your Mom would be more than 1 hour and 38 minutes off in her sense of time if it wasn't a dream.

I define a real awakening as the point where you're only able to perceive objective reality rather than the previous dream.
