Windy's Self-hypnosis Test for LD, SD, and AP

Hello. Few days ago my long dream partner friend Katsuno recommended me a book called 'A Practical Guide to Self-hypnosis' by Martin Solveig and we decided to apply this self-hypnosis on LDing. To put in short, self-hypnosis is just like the title says - you hypnotize yourself to 'program' something that you want in your subconscious mind. (posthypnosis?) It requires both focus and visualizing with positive auto-suggestion which makes your intent dream come true. This morning I had successful 2 LDs through self-hypnosis, and Katsuno had his own, too, which broke his 2 month dry spell! So in this thread I want to see what my results would be; how it would increase my LD frequency with self-hypnosis. The achievements will be (other than LDing):

      1. Lucid dreaming
      2. Shared dreaming
      3. Astral Projection
      4. Other dream incubations

I've been LDing for 3 years and half, and I was still struggling to have LDs everyday until I read the self-hypnosis book. Sometimes I went into 'good' phase of LDing, and then it just stopped, which brought something very annoying for LDers called dry spell, then tried to find another method to get lucid, I had some success but it stopped again - I just kept going in circles and circles. I couldn't figure out the way to be confident, to erase doubts that LDing was hard. (but it's not true!)

Self-hypnosis was the last straw, I think. It's been only 2 days since I've tried it but I know now it will be holy grail for achieving lucidity, and perhaps just everything in dream life and real life.

I wanted to create this thread for my own, and for showing people of my attempts so I can make myself promising. So let's have LDs!

First and Second Attempt of Self-hypnosis

Before the first attempt I've been in almost 2-weeks-dry-spell.

      Day 1 (2/18/13)

      Time slept: around 3 pm
      Time woke up: around 4
      Results: 1 WILD

So here's what happened. After I read the how to part in the book it was so simple like the book said, and it was almost close to WILD and OBE techniques. I felt already tired that moment so I stopped reading the book and gave it a try for short nap. I lied on my bed and did what the book exactly said. I imagined of a deep nice voice of a man and I used the phrase "I" instead of "you". As I breathed through nose I kept telling myself sleep and deep sleep, and tried to feel very relaxed and sleepy as much as possible, BUT being aware at the same time. I think the whole process took about 35-40 minutes but it felt like 2 hours. I noticed that my body was suddenly 'sinking' - like the muscles relaxing, but most of the time when this happened I 'jerked' and it made me completely awake. However, this time I didn't even jerk! My body wasn't 'awake', instead my mind got a little awakened but my body still tried to keep sleeping. I kept auto-suggesting myself (I didn't focus on only words, I tried to picture of me getting deep sleep) and I felt really relaxed, but the interesting thing was I still aware. So at this point I tried to picture of me getting lucid, but somehow I lost my focus and I think I slept...or I just blacked out. I don't remember if I ever slept lol. Suddenly at some point I heard a melody of familiar song. It took a while to remember that song. It was once the song I used to listen to but I completely forgot few years ago, but this whole melody of it came out nowhere and it brought my memory back! After that I started feeling close to WILD so I pictured myself playing guitar at huge concert. I started playing music in my head and it was so vivid. I could even hear its clear bass drops. It felt like I didn't even need a mp3 player to listen to this song lol. It sounded so real. I tried to get into LD but somehow I only could stay at the 'border' between dream and half asleep. Like I felt playing the guitar but my point of view was still in bed...its hard to explain lol. Anyway after playing the song I got into dream. I was still aware that I was dreaming but not fully aware. I was lurking around the town, trying to picture my dream house. I got into this one house and everything was so vivid. At some point I woke up from the dream and I was lying on my bed. I tried to open my eyes but it didn't work! My whole body couldn't move. I immediately noticed that I was in SP but I didn't even have vibration or nothing. At this state I really felt like my mind was awake, my body was supposed to move but it didn't work. My mind was still active and think logically. This never happened before when I was in SPs. My heart was beating fast and I started getting scared but my body still couldn't move. Then I remembered the thing in the book. When I was reading it I didn't understand why there's a techqniue to wake up but now I understood. I remembered its technique and followed the procedure carefully. 'as I count to 10 my eyes will open.' so I counted to 10 and it worked but I was too tired my eyes felt so heavy so I counted again and my eyes were compltely open, but my body couldn't move yet. I counted 10 for the body too and I could finally move my body.... but then I felt so tired and hazy so I counted 10 again to refresh my mind, and it totally worked. I never felt tired.

      Day 2 (2/19/13)

      Time slept: around 1 am
      Time woke up: 8:40 am
Auto-suggestion used: "I will have long, stable lucid dream without doing anything."
      Results: 2 DILDs
(sorry for the bad grammar in this entry, it was early in the morning and I was too excited having Lds lol)
      LD

I went to bed late last night too so when I tried to AP I just fell asleep, and for some reason I didn't wake up during night. and I couldn't remember most of the dreams. Anyway, I woke up some time in the morning and tried self-hypnosis. I still don't know how this auto-suggestion works. My body felt so heavy and my throat felt really dry so I tried to swallow but it didn't work! My body went pretty numb so I suggested to myself 'I will have lucid dream' then 'I will have long lucid dream' and then... 'I will have long, stable lucid dream without doing anything'. As I kept repeating this statement I pictured of me getting lucid and doing stuff what I want. Then I counted to 5 and woke up myself, and normally went to sleep. It was a little hard to fall asleep because I got excited to have LD, so at this moment I suggested to myself that there's no reason to get excited...as I count to 5 my mind and body will fall alseep and this also worked! I even did a count to slow down my hear beat and this worked too So at some point I lost my consciousness and....I immediately got lucid as I entered dream!!!!!!! holy sh** I got so excited. I was in my hometown in Korea and evereything was so vivid and happy and sunny and it was good to see my hometown. I opened the veranda door and flew away... I got really stoked I yelled so much but I didn't wake up!!! normally I would wake up if I got too excitted, but that was another stupid rule that I made!! everything from my town looked exactly the same and I flew so fast like Iron Man. I could feel the strong breeze brushing my body.At some point there was noise outside so I woke up. When I fell asleep back I got lucid AGAIN!!! Everything seemed really stable as I auto-suggested. I was in a very beautiful flowery town and I burrowed a nice acoustic guitar from a boy sitting on a bench. I started playing the guitar and singing and showed people in the park a good performance Even though I didn't know the cord of the song I just stroke the strings randomly and it made right melody. it was so fun...and it felt like I was in 'heaven'. I woke up soon because of noise again but I was so happy, and I couldn't believe this rly worked. Also I felt so tired and I did count for getting rid of tiredness and headache again, and I feel so comfortable right now!

      ----

Although druing the day 2 the LDs were short due to outside noise, it was huge success! Tonight I'm going to try an auto-suggestion saying "I will have long, stable lucid dream every time I dream without doing anything." lol

      Day 3 (2/20/13)

      Time slept: around 1 am
Time woke up: 10:30am (I woke up too many times in the morning so I was too tired)
Auto-suggestion used: "I will have long, stable LD every time I dream without doing anything"
      Results: 2 WILDs

      LD

This time I was too tired to do self-hypnosis before bed. I immediately fell asleep and woke up during the night. I started doing self-hypnosis and auto-suggested to myself saying 'I will have long, stable LD every time I dream without doing anything' then woke my self up from the hypnosis, but at here I had hard time falling asleep back because I was too excited. Later the noise from upstairs was heard and I think I couldn't sleep back for 30 minutes. Anyway, when I finally fell asleep I automatically WILDed and I felt so happy. I don't know why but since I did self-hypnosis my LDs got so bright and sunny. I opened the window and flew away. The tall trees had shiny leaves and it was so vivid. I tried to make it more real, then it became much more realistic. I yelled around from getting stoked but then I woke up because of noise.

I don't know how many times I had to wake up and go back to bed. It was kinda frustrating. When I fell back asleep I WILDed again! This time I had a plan to do something in LD: I wanted to take a look on my phone to see how my future app game looks like. The icon popped up and I pressed on it, and it made a little animation 'on' the menu screen. Then it got total black, and had no response for few seconds. Suddenly the scene of my comic came out. It was the cut-scene I wanted! It slowly zoomed out from the breakfast table - Ray, his mom, and his little sister(?) were eating breakfast and they were talking about something. But I woke up soon again because of freaking noise!!!!!!

      ------

Well I guess I had all the success since 3 days ago
Plan tonight: I'm going to bed early, and I'm gonna use Hukif's TILD technique thru self-hypnosis

      ----
EDIT: I counted my LDs I had so far in 3 and 1/2 years and it's around 170.

Well I failed this morning because I went to bed too late again last night. Maybe I overdid a little, but I had one long weird dream.

I kinda misinterpreted self-hypnosis that I had to do it every night. I was supposed to do it 1-2 times a week...I over did it! So last night I didn't do anything. But in the dream I got semi-LD, and the dream was long again

Are you using specific auto suggestions with your hypnosis or are you just going with the flow?

Martin Solveig ? or Melvin Powers ?

im trying to learn something about self-hypnosis as i believe it has some nice role in LD

keep up with this thread man, this is an exciting method to be investigated

Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way

Well I'm using auto suggestion as trying to be a natural in general, not in specific way. But I guess it's both. Since I can only do self-hypnosis 1-2 times a week, I'm trying to 'picture' myself getting lucid with repetition during the day. That way I can't have doubts anymore because pictures are better than words

      Day 7 (2/25/13)

      Time slept: around 1 am
      Time woke up: 8:30 am
      Results: Semi-LD

Before bed I tried to get the feeling of getting lucid thru LDDing. I got semi-LD in dreams this morning somehow, but I had stomachache for whole time so it kinda ruined it all...

Tonight I'm going to use self-hypnosis before bed!

      Day 7 (2/26/13)

      Time slept: around 2 am
      Time woke up: 7:15 am
Auto-suggestion used: "I am a natural LDer. I get lucid in every dream."
Results: 1 DILD for over 2 hours and semi-LDs

I did self-hypnosis before bed and for some reasons it took like 50 minutes. I was going back and forth of almost falling asleep and staying awake.

      Spoiler for DJ entry:

tl;dr: I got lucid in the very first dream right when it started and it felt like it lasted over 2 hours! but my recall's a little foggy...

I had only around 5 hours of sleep but strangely I don't feel tired anymore after I woke up. I don't know if I should get surprised or not from the result. I did it before bed and it still worked just as I auto-suggested. Now I feel like the success of every self-hypnosis attempt is inevitable lol

      ----
      Self-hypnosis during WBTB:
It takes very short time to go into deep state but the chances are...you auto-suggest and succeed or fall asleep easily before auto-suggesting because you feel tired. Though you recall every detail of LD.

      Self-hypnosis before bed:
I can get lucid in the very start of first dream but since it happens ages ago in my REM cycles, the recall is not that great, and also it takes quite a while to hypnotize yourself because of concentration. Although the LD is way much longer than WBTB's, its recall is not that greater than that.

      ----
So I think the next thing I'm gonna try is self-hypnosis during 'the day' and see if it still carries out in tonight's dream.

It's still day 7 but my LD count increased 200 to 206!

      ----
EDIT: I decided not to use self-hypnosis today - I already took a nap - so instead I'm gonna wild while I'm in deep trance state without hypnosis for WBTB tonight.

For some reason this is my very first time seeing this thread, I know you gave me a link once though! I'm glad you're having such a success with self-hyponosis, I keep realizing my problems through you, so just keep it up. And so far I've realized I try it at the wrong times, and I don't attempt it long enough. But tonight will be different.

Hey Windy, congrats on the lucids! I've been practicing self-hypnosis for 2-3 months now, but just for other things instead of attempting lucid dreaming. Keep it up!

Wow..1 hour WILD is great ! i have a long road to go about dream stabilization and lenght

I have been doing Betty Erickson Self Hypnosis Technique for 3-4 days. when i go to sleep it puts me in a good trance and i imediately fall asleep with some suggestions or visualizations. At this moment im not able to say how it has helped me with lucidity, because my last nights have been quite atypical ( not because of sel-hypnosis for sure ) and i have used many other induction techniques at the same time. So i cant get a reliable conclusion !

Thanks for the link, VagalTone! for some reasons last night it took 30 minutes to hypnotize myself and I had hard time falling asleep. So that link would help me a lot it sounds just like SSILD method (or maybe SSILD is derived from that technique?). I'm trying another self-hypnosis tonight so I'll use that relaxation technique as well!

Hope it may work with you ! after you complete the cycles it should be very easy falling asleep. i tried it 2-3 times before using it to induce sleep. yesterday i couldnt finish all cycles because i got too sleepy. anyway i had 4 lucids ! ( my best so far )

ya i came to know this technique when reading SSILD tutorial

      Day 13 (3/3/13)
      Time slept: 11:30 PM
      Time Woke up: 8:50 AM

      Yesteday I did something different...
I did self-hypnosis during the day like around 4 PM and wanted to see if it still could carry out the auto-suggestion come true during the night.
I used "I am a natural LDer. I get lucid tonight" for the auto-suggestion... and the result was:

      Result: FAIL. just non-LDs

I couldn't even focus on LDing because my mom hindered my sleep early in the morning, and I was super tired yesterday.

but...why self-hypnosis during the day won't carry out for the night? weird...

      ----
Anyway, tonight I'm going to use self-hypnosis before bed to dream incubate a specific scenario: playing rock concert!
