      Awake for 73 hours.

I have been. I mean, the title- I've been awake for 73 hours now, and....
I don't feel any different than when I woke up three days ago and thought to myself "why not see how long you CAN stay awake, Elliot?" My memory isn't impaired, my reactions are fine (I just tested to get my white belt in Tae Kwon Do last night), and my mental process isn't making me say weird or random things.
I'm not hallucinating, I'm not on drugs, and I just did a couple reality checks. Heck, I guess the only thing that feels a but off would be my sore muscles.

Okay, then, what is WRONG with me? Aren't I supposed to be tripping out on body chemical imballance or speaking gibberish or some crazy [beep] like that?

I dunno. I'm still awake and alive. What do you think, DV?
Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week; you have a schedule, a calendar... Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.

Your fine, I used to Sleep Deprive myself alot, Never got hallucinations. Never really spoke gibberish, I lost alot of weight during that time too, but that was because I was also starving myself and dehydrating myself. A test of my will if you.. will.

I'm not like that anymore, it took a toll on my body, but like I said I was depriving myself of alot of things.

You may not feel the effects now but be prepared, you might just sleep for more than 24 hours.

You might get hallucinations soon, but I've read you can stay up for many days without any serious harm. Might screw with your mind though. Also, you sure you're not hallucinating already? White belt is what you start out with (Yeah I know it might be different from where you are, I practiced WTF and we started out with a white belt)

Yeah, white belt. I only started about a month ago, but it's still enough of a precision activity/workout that I was surprised that nothing went wrong.
Also, I've never had any hallucinations in my life -- even when I got in a car accident and my brain started swelling. Or when I had ~500mg of caffeine.
      Rats.

Edit: now up to ~80 hours!

the hallucinations usually start around the end of the third day like where you were when you posted this. it's not something i like to do, nor do anymore... but you should start experiencing some mental phenomena within 10 hours or so. It doesn't happen instantly. it's a gradual process of going completely insane. By about the one week mark, you are fucking crazy. I stayed up for 14 days/nights on 3 hours of sleep/ not much food once. Not by choice. I was full blown hallucinating though. I was talking to friends that were actually there... and I could see them and all.... then it would go away.... then I'd catch myself doing something like eating a cheeseburger that wasn't there... but I could see it and everything for a minute.... them Poof.

I bet if you stop eating/drinking it will make things more interesting.

I don't recommend any of this of course........ I only stayed up 3+ days in my younger days (haha I'm only 23). the 14 day thing was something different.

I don't have much experience with sleep deprivation, the most I've done recently was last summer at my friend's shore house when I stayed up to watch the sun rise over Atlantic City, I felt sort of dream-y walking back to the house - especially given the weirdness of staying awake and watching the sun rise at what would be the end of my night, and walking back in the middle of the road without another person in sight (listening to The Tourist). It got weirder later because the most I could do on the living room couch was half-sleep with a pillow over my eyes, for about two hours until his little sister started yelling in my face . the rough bit was driving home that night, it was twilight when I was just heading out, and the road I took was a dead-straight 2-lane freeway much of the way

I don't know, man. After 86 hours, I honestly got bored with the whole thing. Flat-out bored. I mean... no hallucinations, no wacky chemical imbalance, no speaking gibberish...
      I felt totally fine.

I hit the 88-hour mark, decided to just give up on getting any funny effects, and hit the sack.
I slept for ~10 hours, got up, and went to work.

The heck? Okay, why didn't anything fun happen???

Maybe you've got too much energy? I didn't think it was even possible to stay awake for 80+ hours.

When I had to reduce sleep drastically, I did start hallucinating, it's basically hypnagogic imagery starting out while awake, your mind desperately trying to shut off on its own accord. At times I was falling in and out of a dream while awake (sort of "microsleep"), and it wasn't possible to stop it. That's not very safe, you can fall asleep while crossing the road with cars.

So unless you were on coffee or something else, only your own energy could keep you going for so long. And also the fact that you needed only 10 hours to restore your energy after 80+ hours of sleep deprivation points out that you have a lot of energy.

So try this later when your health is worse, when your age is older, or when you're tired like hell, is my advice.

At any rate you should be happy with the result. It means you're very healthy.

[sarcasm] Well, sweet queen of Britain! I've NEVER been told that I have too much energy!! [/sarcasm]
But really, thanks for the vote of confidence.

Another thing I thought of: Do you think that what the shrinks call "ADHD" could also be factoring in?

Nope. People with ADHD need sleep just like all others

But could it affect a person's ability to ignore that need?
