      Unhappy Beginner, difficulty WILDing

Well, for the past week or so, I've been practicing to WILD because this whole lucid dreaming concept seemed pretty cool.

However, I'm having trouble actually 'entering' the dream, and I'm wondering if it has to do with the time of day that im trying this, or anything im doing wrong.

Usually after school, I'm feeling really tired so I head off for a 3 hour-ish nap at around 6 PM. I lie down in my most comfortable position, not moving at all and counting my breaths. I feel like I have entered SP, all my limbs are numb and tingling. I see random images in my head, from faces, to objects, to whole blurbs of scenery. However, I can never seem to 'enter' a dream per say.

The previous day, all that was mentioned above happened, and I had this instance where I felt like I was falling and spinning. All of a sudden, my bed disappears and I'm just laying in complete darkness for 20 minutes. I feel like I messed up here because normally the whole process should take 20 minutes, however my mind was idle for 20 minutes in itself.

Today, I also had the same process however I imagined a whole environment (a subway station). However, I remained lying down in my sleeping position in this environment for again, about 20 minutes, not being able to get up.

      What am I doing wrong? : (

Welcome to DreamViews! Depending on when you wake in the morning, 6:00pm may be a little late to try your WILDs. Not that you can't WILD at this time, but it may be pretty difficult to actually get into the dream (complete the transition). With your last dream, it sounds like you actually made it into the dream and just needed to stand up. If you could stand up, you could imagine an invisible rope dangling above you and try to pull yourself up. You could also just try to start rolling around on the ground and then get up. It sounds like you are doing well and are getting close, but just may need to try a nap a bit earlier in the day.

Yeah, it can be a bit difficult until you get used to the feeling and the process. Make sure you aren't concentrating too hard. You want to be as relaxed as you possibly can so you will be able to enter sleep.

I've been having troubles WILDing as well. I normally panic or my throat forces itself to swallow. The weird thing is I never had trouble not swallowing until I read about someone having the problem. It's like reading it made me have it.

Just go ahead and swallow. Worrying about swallowing or fighting off the urge, is worse than just going on ahead and doing it. If you feel a strong need to swallow, go ahead and then continue with your technique as if you had never done it in the first place. The panic while die down once you get more and more used to feeling of being in SP. Just keep practicing and gaining more and more experience. Try to get a little further along in the process with each attempt.

just wondering if it was okay to have random thoughts while you're attempting a WILD. Like what happened during the day , or just random things in general, or do you have to focus on one thing like during meditation? Not sure which one to do, and it always ends up messing me up.

I just let my mind wander. I allow any random thoughts to pop in my head, but I don't analyze any specific thought. I just let them pass in and out of my mind without focusing on any particular one.
