      Can't get past SP

I lay down, fully relaxed and tired, and focus on my breathing while thinking about various things. I feel my body entering SP (at least I think it is). I then get the feeling that I'm falling and I imagine a door that I am supposed to jump through, and that ultimately fails. I either give up after that and fall asleep or I just completely blank out and wake up the next morning unaware of me ever falling asleep. Any tips?

Try to not focus on anything or be too aware of things like breathing, moving, or swallowing. Just don't really try to focus on anything in particular and let your thoughts flow.

Once you get to the point where you have the falling sensation, you are well on your way. Just relax and allow the process to do the work for you. Don't even worry about trying to create a door or a way into the dream. Just allow the dream scene to form around you on its own. Continue to relax and casually observe what is going on around you. You are very close to achieving WILD. Just keep practicing and don't try TOO hard. Let the process and experience run its course. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the support guys. Last night I stayed up a bit too late with some friends so I passed out the moment I laid down, but tonight I'll try again.

Good luck! Try waking up at night for a WBTB first to make doing a WILD easier. I'm going to try again tonight because I'm sleeping in a very isolated and relaxing place for once. Good luck to you and I hope we both succeed!

The one thing I still don't understand is this "forming" experience. Is it like a real dream forming around you in full color or something else entirely?
I always wake up figuring I've made it into a false awakening, and then nothing, so I want to know what to look for before I get up...

A lot of times, you will simply start "seeing through your eyelids." If you can see your room/ceiling/etc, think back and ask yourself, "Did I ever actually open my eyes?" Other times, a full blown dream scene will form in your vision and engulf you within it. This happens mostly when your WILD starts in a different location than where you fell asleep initially. In both instances, the dream scene forms around you on its own. Just relax and let the process do the hard work for you.

Another failed night. I got the falling sensation and I could tell that I was almost in dream land, but then I always am taken right out of it. I normally sleep with a fan on to help circulate the warm air out of my room and I think that this is the problem. Again, I'll try tonight with absolutely nothing on, pure silence, and maybe I'll try some relaxation techniques.

Also, thanks for that tip above KingYoshi. Caretaker, how was it on your end, were you successful?

Do you feel like your body is being pinned down or is very heavy?

No problem at all. Always glad to help. It seems to me like you are getting very close. Just keep practicing and I'm sure you will be able to "get over the hump" soon enough.
