      Alias's EFGHI Tutorial/Study

Alias's EFGHI (Eye Flutter Generated Hypnagogic Imagery) Tutorial/Study

To start off, Im no dream guide. I dont claim to be. I just noticed something a while ago that I wanted to share. Also, before you jump on my tail for the bad acronym, I was half asleep when I came up with it, and it stuck.

Anyway, here is what I discovered. I found a way to induce HI quickly, at least in myself. Thats where the "study" part comes in. I want to see if anyone else can do/has done this.

Here is how to do it.
      1) Lay down to sleep. I have tried evenings and afternoon naps. It works best when you have something that you can see, such as a dim glow of a nightlight, or the moon lightly shining in through blinds.
      2) While keeping comfortable, keep the visual stimulus in your view.
      3) Begin to blink slowly, and smoothly. Like reverse blinking, your eyes will eventually begin to get tired. Keep doing this, even if you can only open your eyes a little bit. Dont concentrate on the thing you are looking at, only see it.

After I did this for a while, I began to see a lot of HI almost all at once, even with daylight streaming in my room. One time I nearly got to SP within a matter of seconds, but the vibrations startled me.

So anyway, try this out! Its worth a shot. Let me know if it works for you, cause I think I might be onto something!

      ~Alias

EDIT: Also, if this is an already well-established technique, I apologize for being such a tool xD But seriously, if it does exist, just let me know

Ok so I read the tutorial late last night, so I read it wrong. I read the reverse blinking thing and thought you kept your eyes closed and then opened them for a bit and closed them again. So it didn't work. So I re-read it and found out what I did wrong. Going to try it again tonight, but this time correctly.

      @ThAtaInTmE, Great!

@DreamGuy, You just open and close your eyes slowly. I talked about reverse blinking just to say that your eyes would eventually get tired like if you did reverse blinking. Sorry for the confusion.

Okay thanks. I'll try this tonight.
EDIT: Tried this during a nap. I read a book and I found myself getting sleepy. I blinked a few times and my eyes were getting SO heavy. So i closed them and I soon felt SP. It wasnt strong though. But I'm usually not good at WILDing during naps anyway. I'll try this at the middle of the night. I'll post results tomorrow.

Doesn't really seem to be working for me. I've tried it about four times, spaced out over almost two days. I lay down, with my TV on, or using the light coming through my window as a 'visual stimulus'. As my eyelids begin to get heavier, I close them for a tiny bit longer each time I blink. However, nothing happens. I don't see any imagery, or experience SP. I'll have to practice more, hopefully I'll get better at it.
EDIT: I should probably mention that it lasts for about 10-15 minutes each time.

@DreamGuy, good luck! I think you got it exactly right, hitting sleep paralysis.

@BlueHalcyon, Thanks for your reply How fast are you opening and closing your eyes? I have found that affects it, and that opening and closing them smoothly and slowly with a small pause between "blinks" works best. But again, thats just for me, and I have no idea how it would work for others. Good luck!

Well, I open my eyes for about 4-5 seconds, then close them for about 2 seconds, sometimes 3. I try to do it as smoothly as possible

Didn't wake up for WILD. Completely my fault. I did have a LD though. My fourth.

Kinda worked for me, I did it for about 5 minutes and got some HI and felt more tired. Gonna keep on using this one though!

Just out of curiousity; I wonder if you could use this - in a way - to induce a WILD?
      Just a thought.

Im glad it's working out for people

@Sydney I would imagine so. As I said, I once felt SP but then startled myself. For anyone that uses HI as a visualization for WILDing should find this helpful. If anyone that is proficient with WILDing want to try, please by all means. I would but I'm not good at WILDs

Got a better name, IBIHI(Inverse Blinking Induced Hypnagogic Imagery), but I will try this and see if it works. I personally have only experienced HI once in my life, and it scared the hell out of me. I woke up in the middle of the night with SP and saw an orange glow in the room(couldn't open my eyes), I felt scared, but drifted into sleep later on.
I have become quite interested on the layers of lucidity, and I use them to measure how lucid a dream is. For more information on these layers, click here.

I'm guessing this will work best when you're quite tired, right? Think I might try this sometime tomorrow, I've already had some moderate success with reverse blinking so this might just be a thing for me.

I'll have to give this a try, I'll post an update after trying for a day or two and see if this helps.
I've only been in SP doing a DEILD, have yet to induce SP via WILDing. It's rather difficult, I just fall asleep. lol

I've been able to drift asleep in midday with it. Not sure why. But yeah, it helps if you are tired.

Great! Looking forward to hearing it

I have found that doing this at night gives me a very relaxing spinning sensation, as well as a random timed pressure on the sides of my head that only lasts a second and feels pretty good. Then I usually drift off to sleep. Still haven't had a WILD via this though. Will keep trying!
