      Problem with WILDing

Every time I attempt a wild either it being during a nap or a wbtb, I lay there and begin to feel very relaxed, I kinda lose the sensation in my limbs, I slow my breathing to steady semi deep breaths and I won't focus on anything (or try) and sometimes I'll slip into a memory and I'll be like snapped back to consciousness. But usually after 40 mins of wilding I try to go to back to bed like normal and usually have a hard time falling asleep after trying wild. Oh and I never notice HI either. Any advice please??

The wild subforum is probably a better place for this topic.

As for your problem. Sounds like you need to relax more, only thing I can think of, not an expert by any means.
      Attempting WILD: 0

Have achieved SP with mild HI previously, haven't attempted much in the past.

Hmmm when does the "snapping back to consciousness" happen? Is it after the 40 minutes, before, or some time in between? I have had instances where I am starting to drift off, and when I get some random thoughts, I get jolted back to consciousness. After that, I have a hard time sleeping as well. The only remedy I came up with for myself is try to go back to sleep using mantras. After a few minutes of repeating mantras to myself mentally, I found I could drift off much easier than when I didn't use them.

      Good luck and happy dreaming

(and thread moved to WILD subforum btw)

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

You need to allow your thoughts to drift and not snap back. Otherwise, you won't fall asleep. Check out the guide in my sig.

I had the 'snapping' sensation just this afternoon (and on previous occasions) and it does tend to wake something up in the brain making it harder to go back to sleep. I wonder if it's some rebound or mechanism to get us up and about, especially if we're not really tired at that point but trying to get into a dream.

One general thought that helps me get to sleep - which is the aim for any WILD/DEILD - is just by realising that falling asleep is not my problem, not my business. Either I fall asleep or I don't, but I carry on as normal without worrying, either counting down in WILD or letting my mind drift.

The sensations tend to wary a lot, so there is nothing wrong with not seeing HI though the entire process. As long as your falling asleep while maintaining awareness, you're on the right track.

I have an educated guess about the snapping, partly based on my own experience; As the sleeping process is divided into 4 stages, there are transitions between each of them, the first ones often go unnoticed (which is a good sign ftr). To pass through to a stage (meaning go deeper), you have to be in the right mindset or you'll snap out.

The easiest way to be in the right mindset to pass through is to be as sleepy/dreamy as possible, holding on to minimum avareness. The only risk involved in this is losing consiousness... which is better than staying awake. After some trial and error, adding a bit of awareness with each WILD-attempt, you'll finally pass through to REM aware.

      Good Luck, Tucane

If you are feeling too awake, sometimes it helps to get up and walk around a bit. When things aren't going well, I become really uncomfortable in bed, and I have to get up and drink a glass of water, or use the bathroom, or something.
