Unhappy Why is WILD letting me down?

Started Lucid Dreaming, or at least trying to, 2 months ago. Overall only had one successful Lucid Dream which was not a full one because I knew I was dreaming, but couldn't do anything about it. Anyways onto the topic now. I have been trying to attain lucidity using the WILD method. Everyday before I go to bed I think about lucid dreaming and then when I lie down I do not move at all and let my mind take over while I think about the dreams I am going to have. It never works out. I've tried drinking like milk and or eating some fruit before I go to sleep, which apparently helps out. However no results.
What am I doing wrong here?

      Welcome to Dream Views!

Are you falling asleep while trying to WILD? If so, you should lay on your bed with the light on for about 5 minutes, maybe get up and go to the bathroom. 10-15 minutes of waking time is good enough to keep you awake for a while.

If not then I don't think WILD is the method for you. Maybe you should try something else like DILD or MILD. Just until you have a few more lucid dreams.

Good luck! See you around chat. You could check out the wiki to see more information on all of the methods, and lucid dreaming in general. There are lots of articles for you to read.

Hmm I suggest checking out Sageous' WILD class in the DreamViews Academy. It's really in-depth and informative

      WILD (Sageous)

      Good luck!

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Doing before bed won't work, you aren't in REM cycles.
Do it 5-7 hours after you go to bed. You can use an alarm clock or remember to wake up. Everyone has a "sweetspot" time where their REM starts, so find yours.

I am going to agree with parts of all 3 posts above mine! First please focus on learning to get lucid from MILD/DILD first. WILD is a hard thing for even members with a couple dozen LDs under there belt. I am not really sure it will work until you get good at getting lucid with MILD. Try again after you have your 12th LD from MILD/DILD. There is a DVA class on it.

Second, if you want to keep trying WILD read through all of Sageous material first.

Finally, it is much, much harder to pull off a WILD at bedtime. It is intended to be used in the later part of your sleep cycle as mentioned above (or in a nap early in the day)
Peace Be With You. Oh, and sure, The Force too, why not.

Right, thank you very much for the suggestion.

Now a general question for everyone. I have a little program on my android phone called "sleep with android" which records when I move during my sleep. From it I can tell that the times I do not move are longest after 3-4 hours of sleep. Is this non-moving sleep REM sleep and is it a normal time?

yea you need some sleep first. Im finding WILD and lucid dreaming all together very difficult myself. But as each day passes i think im understanding everything a little better. WILD is very tricky for me and i have a very low success rate for how close i get.

ACTUALLY it's 4-6. Nah just kidding, but I guess it starts at 4 hours.

REM last for 20 minutes or so, I think.

LOL. And I was taught 4.5 hours, so who knows
I have better luck the longer I sleep. My best time seems to be after 6.5 hours. I bet everyone is different, and each night may be different.

An REM phase can get crazy long later in the night. They can reach 90+ minutes. That may not be the normal amount, but it can happen.

Yes! I found out most of my amazing dreams are after 10 hours of sleep.. because in the vacation sometimes I sleep for 15 hours, but tomorrow is my first school day hopefully I'll get used to 6 hours of sleeping

Here is a bit of good news for you. Even if you were not able to do anything, if you knew you are dreaming, it was Lucid. So congrats on your FIRST LUCID!

Reading the suggest WILD class or joining any other class is recommended for personalized guidance. And yes, MILD/DILD is easier to start with. That doesn't mean, that you can't read up about WILD and try when you get a chance to get familiar with the sensations and the whole process.

Keep excited and your practice will pay off big time. Happy dreams
