Very weird feeling after lying down for a while

Hey all, recently I attempted a wild right when going to bed (yes, not the best thing but I had worked my first day and went kickboxing so I was very tired physically) and after about 30-40 minutes, something started to feel very strange. I felt like I was falling through my bed and that my head was proportionally getting bigger than my body and then smaller and at some point it stabilised and it felt like there was a balloon in my head but it was expanded a lot. However my body wasn't paralyzed.

I could tell because I tried to move my finger slightly and it worked. At some point I lost concentration and fell asleep. What happened? Was I close?

Well, from what you have said you were very close! I do have on suggestion though, I wouldn't try to WILD yet.Once you have more experience with lucid dreams I think WILD is a great technique, but try to master the basics before moving on to the advanced.Good luck in your lucid adventures!

Thanks Stone, but I have nothing better to do at night than wait to fall asleep so I always try to achieve SP. I really want to keep on trying, but maybe you're right.

      And it's good I'm close, thanks. (:

      1. It's not advised to WILD before bed, simply because without any prior sleep, you have to wait about 80 min to get into REM. (There are exceptions, of course, like when you are sleep deprived.) We do dream in NREM also, but REM dreams are preferred, because they are more clear, detailed, vivid and longer.

If you have at least 4.5 hrs of sleep before attempt, you have to wait lot less for a REM.

The falling throught the bed is a sensation you get as you falling asleep and approaching dream. Since you were still awake, it could have been a WILD coming your way. So it's ok to experience before any sleep, and you even may get lucky and get a WILD, just don't be disappointed if you don't. WILDing is already not easy, why make it even harder.

Here is an excellent WILD (sageous) tutorial
and here Sensations and types of entry into WILD

Not being paralyzed is not a problem at all, since you absolutely Do NOT need SP to enter lucid dream.

To keep your mind aware, while your body falls asleep, you need to keep it occupied. Mantras are great to do just that.

I do agree. It's better to have som DILDing experience before trying to WILD. I'm just saying this if your WILDing doesn't work out, so you don't get discouraged. WILDing is not easy, but you feel free to experiment. But I would start practicing for DILD at the same time.

You don't need SP. But if you meant the sensations of falling, flying, and other, those are described in the Sensations... article I linked above.

And keep trying. Good luck and Happy dreams

Thanks Gab that clears up some things. I thought SP was a condition that had to be met. That discouraged me enough to stop while I was nearly there. I'll keep on trying though and yes, I do practice DILD also.

Some tutorials do mention SP as something that you need to LD. Here are 2 points about that:

      1. Vibrations, hallucinations, sensations of all kinds USED TO BE called SP. So in some tutorials that's what they are talking about when they say SP. And all of those sensations could be an indicator, that you are getting close to LD. But not everybody gets them, or not all of them, or different ones every time. So it could be an indicator, but not a very reliable one.

      2. Some people do experience "true" SP - when you paralyzed and can't move. If you one of them, it can be used to your advantage. But if you don't experience SP, waiting for it and making it some kind of a goal is gonna mess up your attempt completely, because you can lay there till morning and still not get SP.

Wheather you do experience SP or not, it makes no difference at all. All sensations should be just observed passively. Everything that happens with your body should be observed passively. If you keep thinking about your body, you will have hard time transitioning into your dream body.

So if you don't normally experience being paralyzied, skip the tutorial that says that you need SP to WILD. (Feeling of heaviness, or it's hard to move, because your muscles are relaxed - doesn't count as SP.) It will not work for you. Read a tutorial that doesn't put emphasis on your body, like WILD by sageous.

Thanks Gab and I have only experienced SP once, but that was after a long night when I took some party drugs. However my mother and father and have experienced SP, only once though AFAIK.

I've read the tutorials by sageous and it's helping me a bit, in fact I had a strong feeling I nearly achieved my first WILD earlier today when I woke up at about 7 and went back to sleep, so that was after 5 hours of sleep. Had to start work at 12 today so decided to make it late.
