      Every time I get close... I chicken out!!

      Hey guys this is a weird issue I keep having.... I'm getting to the point with WILD where I can almost always get to the same spot.. but never further. I'm pretty sure I'm right on the brink of entering a dream, too.

      Sometimes I just "come to" during the transition and other times I'm aware for its onset. Recently, it's been happening really fast - my entire body and eyes begin to feel like they're vibrating and shaking and I get the exploding head thing for a few seconds, sometimes it feels like I'm floating. I know consciously that I'm about to enter a dream, and that deep down nothing can even really hurt me, but as soon as I'm actually there and its happening I kinda panic and just wake myself up. I'll either force myself to break the SP or basically use all my might to open my eyes, and occasionally I'll kind of blink my eyes really fast and see flashes of my room with certain things changed each time. Idk, I just get afraid that I'm gonna see some scary shit and even though I know it's just a dream it freaks me out to the point where I can't even continue the WILD. I'm starting to get kinda pissed too because it's like I know i'm RIGHT THERE but just don't have the balls to go through with it all the way :'(

      Any tips for a beginning WILDer, or is it basically like any other new thing where you just have to take the dive and do it to learn it's not so bad?

      Hey Jesslet sorry to hear you are having problems with your WILD's, it must be frustrating,
      I'd recommend that you read gab's thread on http://www.dreamviews.com/wake-initi...into-wild.html it was really useful to me when I was starting out. Another option would be persistence (which in my mind is always the best option) just keep trying and keep reassuring yourself, you're bound to get it one day. I will also recommend mantras, you could chant a mantra like "I will calmly enter the dream tonight." when you wake up and before you go to bed, it could make a difference, although not commonly used in this way I could see it working.

      Phased's response was very complete. Just adding on that, I have had similar experiences in the past, and well, although I've had a lot of DILD's, I've never had a single WILD. So maybe you want to complement the WILD technique with the DILD technique. You don't need to only pick one. For example, DILD's are easier before going to sleep at night. WILD's are best after you woke up at night, closer to the morning or before a nap.

      I know I have trouble WILDing because well, I'll get to a point where my body feels all these weird sensations, almost as if I'm about to have an Out of body experience, that's what it feels like is happening, but then nothing happens and then I give up. Maybe what we need to do is just become comfortable with every stage. Then, as you become comfortable, it will be easier to go further? Persistence!

      Oh, and what I've been told also, is maybe I don't give myself enough time. For example, I always wait only just one hour. Then I stop trying. Maybe, I would have to wait 2 hours. And as my body get's used to WILDing, maybe it would come faster after that? I don't know. That's why I'm mostly a DILDer.
