Phased's response was very complete. Just adding on that, I have had similar experiences in the past, and well, although I've had a lot of DILD's, I've never had a single WILD. So maybe you want to complement the WILD technique with the DILD technique. You don't need to only pick one. For example, DILD's are easier before going to sleep at night. WILD's are best after you woke up at night, closer to the morning or before a nap.
I know I have trouble WILDing because well, I'll get to a point where my body feels all these weird sensations, almost as if I'm about to have an Out of body experience, that's what it feels like is happening, but then nothing happens and then I give up. Maybe what we need to do is just become comfortable with every stage. Then, as you become comfortable, it will be easier to go further? Persistence!
Oh, and what I've been told also, is maybe I don't give myself enough time. For example, I always wait only just one hour. Then I stop trying. Maybe, I would have to wait 2 hours. And as my body get's used to WILDing, maybe it would come faster after that? I don't know. That's why I'm mostly a DILDer.
