How to make light in the darkness?

Hey there, I had a Lucid dream this night. I was in a dark building and I almost could't see anything. So I tried to shine light from my hands. I yelled "Light!", "Lumos!" (Harry potter :p ) but only a really really dim light shined from my one hand. It barely made any difference...(I hadn't stabilized the dream yet...) The problem is, when I become lucid, most of the time it is very dark end I can't see much. So I can't even stabilize by looking at my hands because I just can not see them! So the dream faded quickly and yet another chance to become lucid was lost...

I experience this a lot and I wonder if any of you have a solution of some thoughts to help me

      Thanks a lot!

Well for the light part, it's really just a matter of belief. Anything can work, but a good way to do it would be to spin on yourself, visualizing a sunny scenery. You might want to increase you lucidity. You can just shoot "lucidity X100!" or "more lucidity!".
Now to stabilize the dream there are lots of ways that don't require light. You can rub your hands, or hold something tight. The concept is really to keep as many senses as you can in the dream, so you could also sniff the air as you rub your hands or something like that.

As Higat said, stabilizing works best when you're engaging as many senses as once. If you can, try to ignore the fact that you have a physical body at all, whilst still being aware that you're dreaming. As for lights, I've personally never had a problem with this, as most of my dreams are set during the day, but light switches are notorious for being uncooperative, so don't bother with them. The idea of shooting out light from your hand is sound. Just a bit more practice with dream control and you'll be there. Also, another method for bringing light is to force the sun to rise. Remember, if you truly expect the sun to rise, it will. Finally, the more stabilized you are, the more control you typically have.

I tried it this night but I was waking up so I hadn't much success. My vision was really blurred and everything was dark and I couldn't see my hands, but I remembered touching things so I stroked the grass beneath me and this helped a bit, but then I woke up. For the sun to rise thing, I actually posted a thread about it :p So I know how it is done, but I was inside somewhere so I didn't think about that. I'm going to try it though. The problem is that if I haven't even stabilized yet, I don't have enough '(will)power' to make light/sunlight. So instead I lose my lucidity...

If summoning light directly didn't worked well, what about summoning a flame! Or anything related to light anyways, try searching for a lightswitch, a torch, a lighter or something, or maybe try summoning a menu and turn up brightness, or drinking night vision potion, or transforming into something that can see well in dark! There are lots of ways and i am sure something will work out nicely.
Also maybe you are overthinking stabilization a bit and that causes destabilization, it's a nice and helpful tool but it's not a must for having a nice lucid dream, unless you make it a must yourself.

Perhaps it's day and you have some sort of veil or a hood covering your sight and you should just lift it up to uncover your eyes.

i used to have problems with this too, i have 2 suggestions for you, first.... this what i sometimes do if i notice the lighting level is off, using what sight i have, i search for a lamp, or a light bulb... and channel my actually energy into it, it works for me dunno about you.
secondly: the pretend method: i sometimes pretend im god him self while hovering in my lucids, just by saying let there be light: there was light, but you must have faith that your voice commands will work, and are heard by your subconscious

I may sound like a weirdo, but my main fear is darkness. I have lots of Lucid Nightmares being stuck in darkness.

I would try something awesome as a last resort like raising your first and saying "LET THERE BE LIGHT" (i did that once haha)

I would just maybe taking your hand and pretending your tearing the darkness apart and on the other side theirs light

I would suggest trying to remain as lucid as possible in a dark room by spinning or rubbing your hands or something cutaneous and then toying with the idea of feeling the light until you figure out what that feels like. Once you are able to feel it, you will be able to use it at leisure in future LD's.

The last time I got lucid inside a dark room (actually it was night in the dream) what I did was to summon light from my hands, it worked good since my brain apparently was able to recreate the idea from the experience of holding pocket lamps. I wasn't able to light the whole place at once, although it was enough for me to light wherever a pointed with my hands and see. After going here and there looking for something interesting that I didn't find, I just went out of the place and it was day outside, then I needed no more lights there.

I wonder if the dark dreams have anything to do with being close to the void. Like you're struggling to overcome it and "force" lucidity and some part of you isn't ready to go there yet.

I've had a few LDs go dark, after about 30 seconds I end up waking up. But that's enough time to try a few things, if you work on remembering them.
      1) pretend that there's a dimmer knob in the palm of your hand, reach with your other hand to "grab" the "dimmer" and "twist it" to a higher level of light

      2) ignore the lack of light for a bit, and just dance a crazy dance, trying to feel your feet hitting the ground, and pat your dream body with your hands to get a sense of your dream body. Then once you have a sense of the dream body, try walking forwards, looking down to see your feet, hold you hands up to your eyes, but always try to keep a sense of the dream body.
I have yet to do this myself successfully but I hope it will work.

haha, so you been to the void? total emptiness is crazy hey lol... what caught my attention with your comment...was being close to the void? i find that very interesting indeed cause when i leave the void, usaully first thing i find on the fringe is a dark neighourhood setting, i once made a safe house in one of those houses

Excerpt from my DJ a few nights ago -
It was dark so I commanded "daylight" which didn't work so then I commanded "sun shine" and the sun appear on the horizon. It was still dark and the sun was more like a very bright moon I position the sun overhead by command and intensified it with my fingers as if you were zooming in on a iPad and it made it a little lighter but not like daytime.

When you become lucid you could possibly pull a lighter out of your pocket, imagine yourself reaching up and finding a hanging light switch, pull a flashlight out of a backpack. Controlling large things such as the background of your dream is very hard to control, such as shifting scenery or changing from light to dark, start small and work your way up!
