I do them, but I find the process long and troublesome. I've done a few really good ones though, some photos I hold very dear.

Your photos are very impressive, the colour scheme is very fitting, although a little depressing. It's an excellent way to relay the barren feel that november and december often bring with them. The complete lack of people enforces that effect. I might do some similar shots myself.
My only criticism is that your photos seem to lose detail from some of your post processing. The noise fits greatly, but it's very easy to tell that it's fake. You should try defining it some more and make the colours pop. This might work better with completely B/W photos. The vignetting is also wonderful, excellent way of simulating a real wideangled lens. Perhaps a little too strong in a few photos, but really, vignetting is an aspect of photos where you can get away with a lot of wild play. Finally, don't do fake depth of field, especially not where elements at the same depth are focused differently. At least use lens blur instead off gaussian blur :p

      The photos are impressive.

Although I do agreed the theme is rather depressing.

Yeah i like them but even though i agree they are depressing i'd imagine that's the approach you're going for i mean never really found a cheerful vibrant graveyard or empty field myself.

I don't usually find much beauty in photos, but those are incredible, to me. I need to make one my desktop background.

You basically take a bunch of photos, any number above 2 will do, although more than 13 or so can be tough for your computer to chew through. These photos will basically be of the same scene, however with your camera rotated a little, to capture more scenery. It's important that you camera stays in exactly the same position, and when you rotate it you should actually rotate it around its lens.

You will want to be able to control the exposure and whitebalance settings on your camera, otherwise you might end up with very differently exposed shots, which will look weird when you stitch them all together. It can be done with a normal point-and-shoot camera, but it will be a lot more challenging than a camera where you have freedom.
There is lots of software out there to do the job. I've found Photoshop to be the best. Just go into File > Automate > Photomerge. There are different ways to do it, I believe that I usually use Auto or Cyllindrical. Always check "vignette" removing, but I'm not entirely sure about "Geometric Distortion Correction".

You can of course also buy a wideangled lens, but that's a little expensive. I know Spanner didn't do that because of this photo.

The little "skip" in the powerline is the part where two different photos are stitched together. The whole powerline is generally very wobbly.

These are from a panorama I did a while back. One is the complete thing (although not the whole panorama), one is with a part missing.

      http://i.minus.com/jBXsJB8En8ysk.JPG

      And the complete panorama:

From what I've found, stuff that occurs in nature like trees, skies, plants and so on are very easily fit into a panorama, but buildings and the likes, very "liny" and "squary" stuff, can be difficult. The powerline from Spanner's collection is a good example of this.

Thanks for the feedback guys I completely agree about the use of the gaussian blur on some of those-- I regret doing it D; live and learn.

I think the noise is yielded from a sloppy use of the high pass filter sharpening technique, on top of shooting all of the individual pictures through an HDR program first (more so just to balance things to my liking, I think you can see it's not too overpowering in most cases but a few). As for colour, definitely wanted to portray a dull, depressing atmosphere, but as the seasons change there will be much more colour I can assure you

Another thing I want to experiment with is macro panoramas... I think that could have interesting results, but I won't be trying it for awhile.

      Here's a few more:

      http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/20...er-d4kg0wy.jpg

I really detest the last one. Nevertheless there it is in all it's glory.

A couple days ago I took pictures for 19 different panoramas, only gone through 8 so far. So more to come, that was just from one day of shooting.

You can of course also buy a wideangled lens, but that's a little expensive. I know Spanner didn't do that because of this photo.

Ah, the fault of a poor choice in stitching program And my impatience with post-processing (usually~)

I'll make it known that I am using this lens with all of the shots, which I bought for myself for christmas, so I am very new to it:

Oh neat, so you're using a panorama lens and stitching them together. How many photos do you usually use? Also your macro idea is interesting, though I imagine you might run into a lot of problems related to distortion.

Indeed, so that'll be something to quarrel with later on... And indeed! With some shots I have nearly a 360 degree view and it looks quite like it's all right in front of you, I love that. Typically I use anywhere between 4 and 12 photos.

      EDIT: Some more!

      Thank you

      Here's some I edited yesterday/today.

I think the second two work well next to each other personally. They feel related.

EDIT: oh yeah and this one.

All of these are wonderful! Had to see them all.

As a matter of fact I was just trying to do something similar this morning, as an attempt to include all the colors of the sunrise...

Great picturs Spanner. You live in a very flat place with a lot of old rails.

I actually like that they're a bit darker. It's harder to express emotions through photography than through other mediums like painting, I think. It gives off a kind of "barren wasteland" feel.

My favorites are the third one in the first post with the swingset, and the third one in post number 12.
