Thread: Tell me about energy drinks

In my opinion, I think energy drinks are one of the worst things to hit markets. Whenever I see a kid gulping one down casually, I get sick. I think it's horrible that they're so accessible to anyone at any time. They don't even know what the long term effects are.

And imagine people who buy one of these every single day. Yuuugghh.

I enjoy a good jagerbomb every now and then, but am not a fan of energy drinks for the sake of "crash-free energy." Nothing beats a decent night of sleep.

..Or a decent night of sleep AND black coffee! Bwahaha.

I avoid energy drinks because the sugar levels are beyond insane. I enjoy one every two months or so, though. I don't trust the sugar free ones because I'm sure they have something else bad in the mix, too.

well there are energy drinks which arent the full on ones. like lucozade, thats an enegy drink, but its not one like red bull etc.

i love lucozade, but ive never had a proper energy drink, because if i do, it would do something to my heart or something, its to do with heart murmer.

hmmi dont drink energy drinks, but many of my friends do.
this one guy i work with HAS to have caffiene every day, hes become addicted to it. He doesn't even just have energy drinks, he also has caffeine pills. The other day some people i work with bought mints that last up to 3 hours of energy. pretty gross i think. anyways, from what ive heard, many people like NOS. ive tried it. last year i had like 3 cans of it and some other energy drinks and they didnt do shit for me. oh well. i can live without it!

I hate it when kids buy them just to be cool.
I know a kid who smokes just to be cool (Hes a fraking douche)
Every time he comes to our house (Hes my stupid brothers friend)
He brings over the "king size" Full throttle. Those tast like shit!
The only enegery drinks I sometimes drink is that Mountain Dew with the ginsang, (That tast so good, like a normal soda)
And sometimes an amp

I can't stand them. To me, they taste disgusting, and I've never felt energized from one. I think a lot of it is just a placebo effect.

They are a waste of money. I have only ever bought an energy drink once in my life and it tasted so bad.

I don't like energy drinks and I also feel a little sick when I see high schoolers and especially anyone younger than 15 drinking those things. As someone already said, we really haven't studied the long-term effects of drinking those things all the time, or even the effects of long-term caffeine ingestion.

I'm a coffee drinker and I am not ashamed to admit it. I do enjoy the flavor, but I also drink it because that's what we have around at work and at home. I do like the ability of caffeine to at least sort of wake me up, but more often than not I drink it because it's there. If I have an espresso drink, I usually don't have more than two shots, maybe three if I'm particularly tired. Any more than that, though, and I do start to get sick to my stomach. On my birthday a few years ago, I had 6 shots (4 regular; 2 decaf) and I began to feel so sick... never again.

But seriously, if I can make it through high school without being chemically altered all the time, so can (the all-inclusive) you.

EDIT: As far as seizures, I don't know if they would contribute to the likelihood of one, but I'm assuming that if someone is prone to having seizures, they should be careful with any stimulant. All the acids in those drinks, though, is not good for the stomach and if combined with regular stress, I'll bet we'll be seeing more younger people with ulcers. I don't know how those drinks would affect the kidneys, but considering the kidneys filter out a lot of the crap from our blood (and especially with caffeine being a diuretic), they might be working harder than normal. The heart would also be working harder than usual as well.

I'm no doctor or scientist, so these are my personal opinions.

Yeah they do taste like crap! Except that MDX one. But its mor of a soda than a original energy drink

I personally love the taste of energy drinks (I didn't at first, but after a while they grow on you). I'd drink them consistently if it weren't for all that chemical shit inside of them.

energy drinks have never once given me a bit of energy...

except for Jolt Silver... that shit is liquid crack. and not in a good way. i felt like shit after drinking one... it comes in a big metal bottle and you're supposed to drink a third of it but i drank it all. naturally after feeling like a crack head for about an hour i decided to look at the bottle and saw the serving size.

generally i feel the bad side [though we do not know it's full extent] far out weighs the good side.

I have problems with anxiety so I don't tend to drink them often because they make me extra jittery and they make my anxiety soar.

I don't like many of the drinks because I too think they taste nasty. But I LOVE Bawls. They're hard to find though. I like the Bawls Candies best but I have to order them from ThinkGeek.

In my experience, energy drinks are best treated as a drug, to be used for specific purposes but not consumed casually. Of course, I'm particularly susceptible to the effects of caffine - a single red bull gets me going and borderline jittery, and one of those big cans that a lot of energy drings come in will absolutely knock me on my ass. I tend to use them sparingly and hesitantly (but unfortunately more often than I'd like - my last couple semesters have been pretty busy). Also, if you overdo it, the crash can be pretty awful, at least from my experiences.

I am constantly amused at the B vitamins and assorted nutrients/supplements that most manufacturers put into energy drinks - which have basically 0 effect beyond placebo - in an effort to convince people (pretty successfully, from what I've seen) that there is something beyond caffeine (and guarana, which is simply a natural source of caffeine) that is giving them energy. When I really need a boost, I much prefer caffeine pills, which are much cheaper, don't have frivolous and excessive vitamins (I get plenty from my multivitamin, thanks), and free of high fructose corn syrup and carbonated water.

Well, I only drink them on occasion.

If I have to stay up writing a paper, sure, I'll sip on a Rockstar while doing it. But I don't drink them like my friends do... They drink them like water...

I see them drink about three a day, and I'm just stunned, especially because they don't work off the energy, they just sit there, watching a movie or something...

yea, thats stupid, the reason energy drinks are made is for when you need energy. when those stupid teenagers cant get there hands and alcohol, they go for the energy drinks to look cool.

ive not had any of these energy drinks, for the reson ive already said, but i have smelt it, and it smells disgusting, i wouldnt want to drink one.

the only time i feel the effect of an energy drink is when im really really tired.

YES!!! I use to live in a town were the gas station sold them!!!! Then we moved but We were there one day, and they special ordered me a 38 case of them!!! It lasted me from December to the after February!
