      Not existing in the dream.

I haven't been keeping a DJ for long, but I do see a theme here. Often my dreams are like imaginary episodes of a TV show or a book or something similar. Even then, sometimes I get the sense of being a specific character.

Last night, I had a dream of Dragon Ball Z. The specifics aren't important. I never had any first person views, any feeling of identification, nor even thoughts. At one point it was almost in a videogame style perspective, but I didn't get the feeling I was playing. I was a perfect observer, no thoughts, but I felt the mood of the situation.

In retrospect, the most surprising part of this is the complete lack of thought. I'm full of thoughts! I have thoughts all day, every day. I have thoughts right now.

I suppose I want to know if any other people experience this and how one might do an RC sans existence or body.

I have dreams like this at least once a week. I've never become lucid in one though so I don't know how you would go about reality checking .

      I've definatly had this recently.
I'm not sure about the no thoughts thing but in one dream I followed about 10 different people without being there, all in the same city. A little like Pulp Fiction or Sin City.
I'm not sure about reality checks but I would imagine that if you thought you were dreaming then maybe your mind would make you materialize, or you would appear in a room whatching what you'd seen on a TV.

I actually became lucid in a dream that was structured like some kind of commercial. A person was talking about some sort of language learning product and it showed a display of them but I recognized the shelf from the place where I'm employed part time right now and became lucid.

The transition was really odd. It's like I had been there the whole time but hadn't noticed. I just seemed to all of a sudden been standing there.

The solution is simple, stop watching tv. I stopped having those kinda dreams when I completely stopped watching tv. Plus my lucid dreams got much less hazy.

It can be difficult to become lucid in a dream like this. There is extra distance between yourself and awareness. It is not impossible. I've often become lucid in third person dreams.

I like to go the other way, too. I will often take regular, first person lucid dreams into this realm in order to create a better narrative. You can just watch the dream play out as if you are reading a story, without losing awareness. You can then step in to exert control when needed.

If you ever watch TV, read books, or play video games, try to remember to reality check during the activity. It might help penetrate that third-person-wall.

I'm glad that other people have had these types of dreams.

I'll try the RC when watching TV or during vivid visualizations mid-book.

maybe you should try meditation. It would help in silencing your mind and also improve your lucid dreaming altogether.

What should I look into to learn proper meditation for lucid dreaming?

This happens to me a lot. I constantly have dreams of watching tv shows/movies, sometimes as a character, and something as watching it as an invisible third party. I am able to obtain full control once I think of it as a tv show and try to think of wanting to pause, rewind, fast forward and/or want to change the action. The biggest RC I think for me is having famous actors in my dreams as characters. I instantly always just think "Oh look it's (famous actor's name), I must be watching tv or a movie, because I'd never see them in real life" when that happens to me.

Be careful of this method though. Although it's been very effective for me as far as lucidity, I haven't been to have much sense of touch/smell/taste in my dreams because of working on this method.

I've had these quite a few times myself. I would liken it more like reading a book from an omniscient perspective, rather than "watching TV" though I can see how that could also induce these types of dreams. I think they're quite fantastic just because it's a completely different dreaming perspective, as you just watch different stories play out. One might argue that these are more "pure" state of dreaming since there's a freedom from identity and ego.

Did you know that when tv was black and white, people used to have a lot more black and white dreams?
