What shouldn't I do to have a lucid dream?

Just being a bit different here. What would you say you shouldn't do/think/try etc when trying to have a lucid dream.

The one I see most often here is to not have a negative attitude to getting lucid.

Indeed. From what I ve read a positive attidue is crucial. Also, I find that not thinking or worry about hwter things are impossible or not helps. I flew my first time (I think it was a lucid one anyways). Also, have fun! if you arent having fun then your mind might not let you do it as much

Yes, do not TRY to have a lucid dream (just have it). Do not worry about having the lucid dream, or anything about it. Do not think of lucid dreaming as something that is hard, or unobtainable. Do not neglect those tips listed here (dream journal and techniques, and whatnot). Do not set yourself on fire before going to bed. Do not sleep with the TV on. Do not become excited when you realize that you are dreaming.

I would say one of the biggest things you should not do is to try and do everything in a hurry once you get lucid. This makes your subconscious build a sort of archetype that makes you wake up very quickly from your lucid dreams. I've been working to overcome that for quite a while.

That's useful advice right there. So far in my lucids I've tried to let things develop slowly and naturally.

Don't stress, take it easy, and pretend it's a laid-back hobby, nothing to pull your hair out over if you "can't seem to do it". Another thing you might want to do is, if you're the kind that suddenly might not know what to do when you become lucid, make an itinerary of things to do.

(I still do that, so I don't waste dream time trying to figure out something to do!)
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Don't go crazy-ass with techniques. The best thing is a good attitude, MILD, maybe some WILD and a dream journal. I wouldn't start popping pills, drinking weird stuff and eating a shit-load of peanut butter to try and get frequent lucids.

I get them more when I do a lot of WBTB with MILD, whilest recording dreams. That's it.

The things you shouldn't do are pretty much the same things one should not do before going to bed. Don't eat a heavy meal prior to bedtime. Avoid stress. Don't have a light emitting device (i.e. TV) on in your bedroom. Don't exercise immediately before bed. It's all about maintaining a routine.

Routine... I have a routine that I keep to, and have been for years. You know, dinner, bit of gaming or laptop time, then maybe either tv with the family or bed. I have been having less and less dreams lately, last night not even one.

I plan to actually read my dream journal, maybe reading through it will jump start my mind to get back to dreaming. Then maybe I will be more focused on lucids etc, and maybe I WILL HAVE ONE.

But right now, I'm stuck between which method to do and why am I not dreaming lately.

People go through dry spells, try to keep a positive attitude.

I recommend doing a WBTB each night, and MILDing as you go back to sleep, using visualisation aswell. That's what got me started

Well nothing last night, but I did read my journal before bed, and so I did have a full dream, not just little fragments like the past week or so. I'm guessing reading it worked, and hopefully I'm getting close to SOME progress soon.
