      Reverse psychology

Hello everybody!! I have been wanting to make some sort of breakthrough with lucid dreaming. Up until recently I haven't any progress.

I have been doing a lot of research. But then it hit me. REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY!

So it's simple. Tell yourself things like "I will not have a lucid dream". Tell yourself all the time that you never want to have another lucid dream.

This is in no way a guide. It's more of a test.

If you feel like this belongs more in the "research" section of the forum feel free to move it.

I'm sorry, but I really don't think this is going to work. LDing takes effort - unless you try, you won't succeed.

Well, i can see how this can work,. subconscious manipulation or such is involved i assume. I also understand your way of speaking. i thought about this theory once when i said "tonight i will lucid dream" with no success, then i thought "what if i say 'tonight i will not lucid dream'?" and i imagined that it could work!. Its sort of in a way to tempt your subconscious into doing what you said not to do?. idk, but it seems like it would work.

Don't worry, I know what it takes to get lucid.

      But this is effort.

Your using the same effort as MILD but instead of positive reinforcement you use negative.

I'm sure there will be some fine tuning. But this just came to me last night.

I would love for this to work, and I hope it does- however, reverse psychology works differently to what I think you think it is. R.P. where you manipulate a mind by making them want something. If a mind wants something, it will try to get it. If you are playing a game of cards, and you increased the bet, but your hand was bad, the other player would think you have a good hand, a better hand, and they would fold. This is a bluff, or R.P., where you pretend something is real so you convince someone else it is too, from their original thought.

I can't see this working with the brain, as if you pretended that you don't want something, it's YOUR brain, it will just agree with you. You brain isn't competing with you, it wants what is best for you. If you think you don't want a lucid dream, your mind won't want them either.

Like I said this is just a test.

If it doesn't work than no harm.

      Night 1

      Nothing

      Night two

You have had 40 lucid dreams in 4 months, I think we can safely say that was a fluke lucid on the second night. Unless you yourself feel like it was caused by the reverse psychology?

Give us more than just Night 1 and Night 2.

Find someone you hate, and have them tell you not to lucid dream. Or, have your parents tell you to stop. This would probably work for me

Why would telling your subconscious to NOT lucid dream help you?

Maybe the focus of trying not to do something is more effective than trying to do something. Sort of like "Don't think of an elephant". Thats the only thing you can think of. Maybe it works like that.
