      i did a couple RC's and even talk to a DC about me dreaming...and i wasn't lucid

last night a had a dream, it was strange because i performed the hand reality check(the one where you just look at your hand) and the nose reality check(the one where you plug up your nose and see if you can still breath fine) i did these both correctly and did them quite a lot. i even went up to my dream characters, which were close friends of mine, and said "dude im dreaming. im in a dream bro, this is sick" exact words. however i notice i did not become lucid at this point, i've become lucid 4 times and they were very short. how come i did not become lucid in that situation?
sorry if this has been brought up before, i couldn't find a thread like it
Some bars i wrote about lucid dreaming:
what is this, where am I? please tell me where have i been
these scenarios i can't recall, please tell me again
why am i surrounded by each and everyone of my friends
'hey john, i think that your asleep' wait, whatchu mean?
i look around, searching for all the clues i've seen
just hoping that i'll see a sign, and wind up in a lucid dream

Sometimes if you have lucid dreaming on your mind and do a lot of RCs in waking life, it'll transfer into your dreams as part of the dream plot. You'll be acting as if you're lucid, but without that key awareness or consciousness that comes with real lucidity. It's a good sign that the notion of LDing is making its way into your dreams; just work on awareness and really questioning if you're dreaming or not!
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

This has happened to me before, it's really frustrating. I remember in one dream I was going to the bathroom (xD) and I was thinking to myself, "Man, I hope this doesn't mean I'm going to the bathroom in real life!" And I didn't become lucid. Grr.

There have been other times where I'm like, "It's a good thing this is just a dream," and didn't become lucid.

I remember one dream where I was sitting in a car talking to a couple of my friends about lucid dreaming and the importance of reality checks...if only I'd performed a reality check right then and there! Ugh!

It happens to me all the time. I was having a discussion with a celebrity about lucid dreaming, and not once during the conversation did I ever think to myself that I was dreaming lol. Just keep practicing, your awareness will improve.

This used to happen to me a lot when I was starting out. I'd be told or know that it was a dream and not have the awareness or understanding that comes along with true lucidity. As zhine said, it means you're almost there! Practice your awareness and try and understand most of your thoughts throughout the day, try to avoid getting stuck on 'auto-pilot'.
