      Non-Lucid dream about lucid dreaming?

      Hey everyone!
For the last ttle while i have been having a non-lucid dream in which I remember saying out loud that this was a lucid dream, but then I never really was able to achieve lucidity. Usually anytime Im awake and i hear about lucid dreaming I reality check, i even had a dream I was reality checking and i didnt achive lucidity. What do you think happened? Thanks

Did you actually believe the reality check was going to work? For instance, if your doing to nose pinch reality check, did you expect yourself to be able to breath through your nose or is it just one of those habits you don't pay attention to much?

Hmm, in waking life i usually am. I didnt really notice in the dream. It makes sence though, if you dont beleve it will work it probably wont right?

If you think about anything or do a certain activity a lot during the day, it will carry over into your dreams. These are called "day residue" dreams; for instance, people who play video games may dream alot about the characters they play, or the perspective in their dreams may be similar to that of those video games. When I first started LDing (heck, even now it happens!), I often got dreams where I'd say I'm dreaming, but I wouldn't be lucid. I had a dream where I was only lucid as part of the dream plot, behaving as so, and teaching a dream character how to make objects appear. It's perfectly normal to dream like this when LDing is on your mind.

Mancon made a good point about your RCs being a habit. This is a big no-no, because if you do them in reality without being mindful, or seriously putting some effort into them, they may carry over into your dreams but you won't become lucid. There is an aspect of awareness involved with RCing (that you should be practicing while doing your RCs) that is key for lucidity to occur. This is why it's important to be aware while doing them.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I have non-dream lucid dreams very often, look in my dream journal and you can see that even my lucid dreams sometimes becomes dreams where I am dreaming that I am lucid.

Remember, lucidity =/= control. You could be blowing things up and creating snowstorms in a non-lucid with ease, or you could be lucid and have no power to control anything. It depends on the dream. Lucidity is measured solely on whether you're aware or not.

I had a similar experience to this last night... I had a non-lucid dream in which I attempted a WILD and started feeling vibrations and everything, but couldn't get a LD.
      Oh the irony.

About 2 weeks ago, I had a dream about doing a WILD, where I actually became lucid afterwards. I was so excited that I accomplished my first WILD. Only to find out when I actually woke, that I was already dreaming when I did the WILD, so technically it was still a DILD. Just wanted to let you know, that it is possible to go lucid from these types of dreams. So don't worry about it, and think of it as another opportunity to go lucid. I actually think it might be easier to go lucid from these dreams, since LDing is on your mind already.
