      Best technique for newbie?

Hi guys, my name is Michael. I'm 14 and trying to figure out the best technique for lucid dreaming.
I can vividly remember a dream i had when I was about 4 years old, I was at my grandma's house when she said Bigfoot was coming. Being a child, I didn't want to see Bigfoot. So i walked outside and saw large footprints in the grass. This scared me and suddenly i said to myself "Ya know I'm dreaming, so I'll just open my eyes!!!" and i managed to force my eyes open. I laid there for a bit, then went back to sleep. It was the same dream, and i was still aware i was dreaming. So I opened my eyes again. This happened twice more in the same night until i got a good dream and lost my lucidity. I paid no heed to this dream until a few years later...
Recently, I discovered lucid dreams and this dream came to mind. When I found out i could've made the dream change or fly or anything else, I was mad at myself for not knowing this when i was younger so i could practice it >.>
So my question is: what is the best technique of lucid dream induction for a newbie?
      Help would be appreciated c:

PS: I plan on beggining to keep a dream journal starting tomorrow, if this will help.
PPS: I haven't had a nightmare since I was around 7, and I used to wake up in sleep paralysis when I was in 6th and 7th grade, none of these happen anymore. I also constantly will say in a dream "Oh. Im dreaming" but lucidity does not come, and I just go about my business in the dream.
