Which method should I try first?

I recently joined (yay first post ) And I have been interested in lucid dreaming for a while.

I have never had a lucid dream, but am trying to find the right method (I have a small dream journal too) I tried SSILD last night, but I have minor insomnia, and I couldn't get back to sleep for 4 hours (I'm operating on only 3 hours of sleep right now.)

What are some good methods that don't require waking up in the middle of the night (besides DILD)?

I'd say start with Mild or wild :p.
      DILD: 9 | MILD: - | DEILD: - | WILD: 2
      OBE: 3 | AP: -

I can see you sleep through your bedroom window. You're killing yourself with lucid dreaming.

If you only sleep 4 hours... well all i say is don't place your hopes high.

You should treat your insomnia first.
      I realize that i'm dreaming.

How do you feel with only 3 hours of sleep per day? Unless you need very little sleep, you should do something to sleep longer at first. I think that your insomnia is bad enough to consult a doctor.
I am sorry if you expected an answer about LD.

I'm not an expert at lucid dreaming but i gained awareness and control over my dream once i looked in a mirror at myself, you don't have to leave your dream or wake up to begin lucid dreaming. You can just find a mirror and look at yourself then BAM, you're in control.

This method works for me and it's the easiest for me as well.

Research MILD... this is good for non-REM lucids. Welcome to the forum!

sorry you can't just lucid dream like that, he will not be aware enough to realize you look messed up and second, what are the odds you look in a mirror?

Basically all methods except dild and mild require waking up at night. However you could try the Cat technique which supposedly works very well, or you could try out Deild becuase there is no real loss of sleep once you have learned how to do it. Personally I find Deild excellent. I wouldn't go near Wild as was suggested earlier cause1) its hard 2)a lot of loss of sleep 3) If you consitently fail you might lose hope. Good Luck

Dild doesn't require waking up at night, that's only MILD/WILD

I , too, have very bad insomnia. I just posted a free MP3 download for progressive muscle relaxation at our website here. Try it out... it might help you sleep.

If you can't wake during the night, you can try WILD or MILD during an afternoon nap. You might have to adjust the timing to find a time when you dream.

Why can't you wake in the middle of the night? You don't have to set an alarm, get out of bed, or even stay awake for more than a few minutes. Try to notice your normal midnight awakenings, and use them as an opportunity to recall dreams and remind yourself to become lucid.
