Kind of new and have general questions about WILD and MILD and DJ

Hi! I'm kind of new (look at my join date) and I haven't had any LDs yet. One reason is every time I do WBTB and WILD, I will fall asleep to soon. I usually fall asleep around 11:30 and set an alarm for 4:40. (How is that in regards to time?). I usually get back in bed after a minute or two. I'm kind of afraid that if I stay up for like 15 or 30 minutes that it won't work. Also, what should I do in that time that I am awake.. should I avoid bright light?

In regards to MILD, are the techniques suppose to seem easy and like there is not much involved to them?

I keep a paper dream journal (although I haven't updated my DV DJ lately), but is it better if I record everything about the dream, or is it just as good if I record points of the dream and let my memory just remember the rest?

      Thanks!

For your time that you wake up, 4:40, seems like it would be a good enough time although most people experiment with the time they use for WBTB and find what suits them. Also I don't really know if bright lights would do anything if its the same as say a computer monitor then you should stay away from them because it can cause you to not fall asleep as quickly. While your awake in that time I would recommend maybe thinking about lucid dreams or visualization also do your mantras and if you don't have mantras then make some. And for your journal I would say that anything you record is good every little bit help towards better recall.

Firstly, I should tell you that you must be patient. It can take more than a month to have your first lucid dream. Everyone is different after all, so everyone learns to lucid dream at different rates.

I don't know a lot about the best times for a WBTB/WILD combo really. I think it's more of a personal thing that you have to experiment with on your own. Once again, everyone is different, so things vary. Just experiment with it and do whatever feels natural. Also, you should avoid bright light and other things that would make it hard to fall back to sleep during a WBTB.

MILD is a technique that I personally consider very easy. Many other people find it easy too. There are a lot of ways to do MILD, but they're very easy methods. I recommend reading this tutorial if you're interested in it. http://www.dreamviews.com/f12/naiyas...hnique-119050/

For dream journals you should write down as many details of the dream as you can possibly remember. You want to train your brain to remember as much as possible after all. If you only focused on the main points you could end up only training yourself to remember half of the dream.

Thanks, you have a good point.

I should have made it a bit more clear about the length of time awake for WBTB. My problem is that I fall back to sleep way to easily and I don't know if it's because I'm not concentrating hard enough or if it's just because I need to stay awake a little longer. Also, will having bright lights on mess me up, or simply wake me up more (if my problem is in fact that I am not awake enough.)

Well, I've heard that bright lights make you fall asleep less quickly so if in the period you're awake you watch tv or use the computer it might be beneficial in your case. If anything It's worth a shot, if it doesn't work don't do it again..

If you find you're falling asleep to easily then you need to push out the WBTB time a little more. If you find that you're having a hard time getting to sleep, then reduce the time. I also agree with Kraom. Bright lights could help you since they simply make you more awake. They might not be such a good thing though because you want to be relaxed during your WBTB and the bright lights might prevent relaxation.

      Welcome to DV!

      1. If you fall asleep too quick, you probably didn't stay up for long enough. You need to get out of the bed, put the lights on and do something LD related. You need to wake up your mind, but just enough, so you can think straight but still sleepy enough to fall asleep reasonable fast. Experiment with timing 5-60 min. One night you may feel like you awake enough after 5-10 min, another night it may be different. You have to get a feel for it by experimenting.

But even if you dont get a WILD, with WBTB, you have a better chance of getting DILD. So practice some mantras, awareness and RCs as a backup plan. Here is everything you need for DILD/MILD.

      2. We sleep in sleep cycles that are about 90 min long. Each one has NREM followed by REM stage. The longer you sleep, shorter the NREM and longer the REM becomes. In the morning, it's almost all just REM {assuming your sleep was long enough). That's why is best to do WBTB after as much sleep as you can afford.

      3. MILD/DILD is easier than WILD, but when practicing, you have to not just do it mindlessly, you have to really be mentally present. Check out the tut I linked.

      4. As it was suggested here, it's best to write everything in your DJ, not just fragments. It's OK to write keywords when you wake up between dreams at night, but then write it all up in the morning.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, just ask. Happy dreams
