      DEILD vs. FILD

I am regularly practicing DEILD, though I haven't gotten a successful one yet.

I have also been looking at FILD a little bit recently, although I haven't tried it yet. To my understanding, FILD is just like a DEILD, except that instead of visualizing the dream that you came out of, you wiggle your fingers, and focus on that movement until you fall asleep. Is this correct?

If my understanding of FILD is correct, which one is better, DEILD or FILD? Is there an advantage of FILD over DEILD, or the other way around?

For a DEILD, you have to wake up from a dream (for me it worked only when I woke up from lucid dream). Then you don't move and if your REM is not over, you should enter another LD within seconds. BTW, this only works if you don't wake up too much. You should be more asleep than awake. If you wake up too much or you move, go for a FILD or WILD.

Not sure if it's similar to FILD, because I don't practice that, sorry.

FILD and DEILD are very, very similar. The only difference between them, that I can think of at least, is that FILD uses the slight movement of your finers as an "anchor" to lead you to a LD. DEILD is basically the same thing, but you can use anything as an anchor. IMO an anchor really isn't necessary because it the process takes only a few seconds for both of them in my experience.

Ok, thanks. For me, I feel like when I try to DEILD, I can't concentrate enough on the dream that I just came out of, so I just end up falling asleep normally. I think I will definitely try FILD, as I feel like it could work a lot better for me, as an anchor.

Anytime you try to WILD you need an anchor. DEILD is a form of WILD. So FILD is just DEILD using your fingers slightly moving as your anchor.

Remember that there are really only 2 types of LD. DILD and WILD. Everything else is variation of it.

I used a lot of acronyms...

Yes, this is just what I needed clarification on. Thank you. I feel like moving my fingers for a FILD would be a lot better anchor for me. I'm definitely going to try it.

Good luck! I would recommend trying it as an anchor for a month and attempting it as many times per night as you can. it is a long time, but well worth it. Log each attempt and see what worked better than others. After that switch to a different anchor if there was no progress. If you have any questions about FILD I would just check out tutorials, but if you are just wondering about DEILD just ask Dutchraptor. He is the master of this particular thing.

Ok, thank you! I have been trying DEILDs for a while now, but like I said, every time I attempt DEILD, I feel like I just lose concentration on the dream that I just came out of, so I'm hoping this will work better. Thanks for the advice!

I have done both successfully. To me, FILD is closer to a traditional WILD, where you try to maintain general awareness as your body falls asleep. The difference lies in the type of anchor. In a FILD you use an anchor in reality to keep your focus. If you are completely focused on the sensation of your fingers "moving" (although not really moving), you will be aware as your body goes into SP.

In the usual DEILD tutorials, you focus on the dream state and your brain naturally creates those sensations and environment as the dream begins. I wouldn't really call it an anchor but everyone has their own interpretations of the LDing terms that we throw around. The subtle difference is your "anchor" is either in reality or the dream. Often when I use this technique I don't feel SP, I just notice I am back in the last dream.

      Good luck!
