I'd suggest performing a Wake Back To Bed. its the most reliable method for me and some cases, the easiest.

I have no idea!!! But i do know that drinking some apple juice before going to sleep seems to make dreams (or atleast mine) more vivid or crazy!

I agree about WBTB. Check this out: WBTB Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

WBTB isn't really a technique, it's more of an aid. Never turn down any technique if you haven't tried it with WBTB.

You may pair up WBTB with any technique you want. I suggest sticking with DILD technique (specifically MILD) as it is relatively easy for beginners. Be patient and keeo your journal and recall consistent, as well as a good sleeping schedule. You'll be lucid soon!

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

I've gotta say that WBTB is a must try. It works absolute miracles.

I agree with paigeyemps. I personally think that if you are not going for a WILD, you should use MILD. If you are more of a visual type of person, I recommend VILD which is a variation of MILD.

Heres a link to the VILD tutorial - VILD - Visually Incubated Lucid Dream - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

      EDIT:
Here are a couple more tutorials just in case you like VILD and are like me who likes to read every word on the internet about it:
This one is the one Pedro, the creator of this method, originally wrote - http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Lucid_D...ppendices/VILD

      I vote for SSILD.
It is a form of WBTB. You relax, so you can go back to sleep, but you are thinking about your senses. This isn't a substantial enough thought to keep you awake, but it keeps you awake enough that you may feel yourself slip into a dream. Even if not, it supposedly helps you become lucid after falling asleep.

I can't say definitively that it has worked for me, but when I started the technique, I went gangbusters as compared to a 2 year history I had experienced to that point. When I stopped using the technique diligently, my success went off a cliff. I consider this anecdotal evidence, but it is the technique I use.

I would suggest that you use a technique that is interesting for you and because of that you enjoy doing it.

Because it is the whole reason to why we need a technique in the first place. The technique is just a tool for you to learn how it all works, to erase fears and beliefs that are blocking you right now like for example: dreams are hazy. So that you later on can drop the technique all together and do it naturally.

So read through some different techniques and look for one that intrigues you and sparks your interest, and then practise it.

Here is a video explaining this viewpoint of techniques: (it's about OBE techniques and meditation, however with a little imagination you can relate this to lucid dreaming as well.)

      Did I miss a memo?

When did WBTB graduate to being a technique?

As Paigeyemps said, WBTB is an aid, and one that can be used with any technique, really. It is not a technique on its own. If it were, then everyone getting up to pee at night would be practicing WBTB, and LD's would be commonplace. Indeed, WBTB more reflects when you're doing your actual technique or LD attempt than it reflects how you're making that attempt.

I mean no disrespect, especially to intheworldofnim, but when a whole thread seems to imply that WBTB is an actual way to become lucid on its own, it raises a concern that about a new "term" coming into common use that is not based on the reality of what it really is. Or am I too late?

I don't think the thread was implying that WBTB was anything more than an aid.

I believe you need not be concerned.
