My main goal is to achieve lucidity. But, I need your help.

      Hello everyone,
If you don't want to read my experience, then it's totally understandable. If you're going to help, then it's greatly appreciated.

Recently, for the past 19 days i've been practicing the art of lucid dream. I have not yet reached the stage of being lucid, but I believe that i'm almost there. Lucid dreaming is not new to me. I have done it many times in my life, but unintentionally without having the knowledge. I've been doing everything(or so i think it's everything) that needs to be done in order to achieve lucidity. When I first started, my dream recall wasn't that bad. I could write down half a page, single spaced, 10 font, of my dream was about. The first dream was about 450 words. Yesterday and the past few days have been amazing! I wrote a page and a half single spaced, almost 1500 words! I have been doing my 15+ reality checks a day unintentionally (which is great), and It's starting to become second nature. I dedicate my sleep to the journal. I wake up about three to four times a night by setting an alarm and writing down what I was dreaming about. I have reached the stage where I sometimes wake up before the alarm by 10 min or so! I meditate at least 5 min before bed for inner peace. I think I'm doing all the necessary things, but maybe there is something missing. I assure you, I am not stressing and forcing lucidity. I'm very calm about it, and I go to sleep peacefully. I just say "The next time I am dreaming, I will recognize that I am dreaming." once or twice fully focused, and I drift off to wonderland.

      My questions are:
      1. What, am I doing wrong?
      2. What can I do, to enhance the chance of achieving lucidity?

I want to learn the art of lucid dreaming, simply because of it's astonishing benefits. I truly want to talk to dream characters, and I would like to ask them what do they represent? To truly know what my purpose is.To be a better person. To know who I truly am. The list goes on and on.

Thank you so much for reading this far. It's greatly appreciated.
      Sweet dreams.

It looks like you are on your way to lucidity. Having a good recall and questioning your surroundings are very important steps towards having an ld. It takes a while for RCs to sink in, but eventually they will and soon you will be posting about your ld experiences. If you are interested, you can check out and sign up for one of our classes at the DVA where you will be able to post your progress and receive more feedback.

      1. You're not doing anything "wrong".

I personally stumbled into lucid dreaming because I used to have bouts of sleep paralysis (actual sleep paralysis) that led to some pretty scary and trippy out-of-body experiences. While I was reading up on it, I stumbled across people discussing how, instead of being scared by it (and it can be scary), they used sleep paralysis as a bridge into lucid dreaming. Even then, it took another year and a half of steady effort before I had my very first lucid dream, and it was only about 10 seconds long. Lucid dreaming is a slow fire to kindle, but once you have put in the time and effort, it begins to come naturally. Don't give up after the first month. Don't give up after the fifth month.

      2. In addition to doing RCs (which are great), you may also want to look into All Day Awareness, which has worked very well for me. In addition, simply having faith in your own efforts plays a huge role in how successful you are. Confidence is a huge factor in almost every aspect of lucid dreaming, from actually having a lucid dream in the first place to how well you are able to maintain and control your dream. Confidence is also the #1 problem that almost every new lucid dreamer has, and it's something that builds over time. Lucid dreaming is a skill that you develop, just like everything else.

      Thanks everyone for the replies!
I got another question for you guys. I usually water fast every 6 months for 22 days for mental and spiritual healing.
Will that affect the quality of my dreams? I heard people actually had more vivid dreams by just water fasting. Is this true?
Lastly, can I take Vitamin b6, and choline bitartrate on empty stomach?

To me, it sounds like you are doing all the footwork many people on the site don't have the discipline to do(including me sometimes). So be proud of that!
What I think will set you over the edge is WBTB (wake back to bed). If you've just woken up from a dream in the middle of the night, stay up for 60-75 minutes as you can and do your normal meditation and mantra as you fall asleep. This should help you to kick your brain into a more aware state as you enter your dreams. Your brain loses almost all awareness after an hour of NREM sleep. Studying REM sleep should help.
      Good Luck!
