      Becoming Aware Without Reality Checks

For some reason, all of my lucid dreams so far, have not been induced by reality checks. I've simply just become aware that I was dreaming and not needed to do a reality check. Granted my DEILDs and any other from of WILDs would probably not need an RC, but some have been DILDs and I've just suddenly realized I was dreaming. Is this a normal way to become lucid? Do you guys ever have these?

When it seems like we got lucid for no good reason, just out of the blue, without RC, well, it didn't happen without reason.

It happened because of our awareness training. It didn't have to be intense ADA or any other awareness technique. Just a simple thought "wow, I could be dreaming" when we RC during day serves the same purpose.

RCs normally don't get us lucid. They are most of the time preceded by a spark of awareness, that makes us do RC. Byt the time we finish with RC, we mostly already know that we are dreaming. RC only confirms it.

RC most of the time only provides a vehicle for our awareness training. That's why we do them at the same time when we ask ourselves the awareness question "wow, am I dreaming" and we believe that yes, we are.

Like gab said. A very effective awareness training for that is RRC(not RC). It trains our self-awareness, which is also crucial for WILDs!

IMO that's actually the proper way to become lucid. It's the initial awareness that makes you lucid, not RC's. Reality Checks are just confirmations that you're dreaming.

What is great is that, after you become good at self-awareness, you'll get a lot of these awareness initiated LDs, like the pros. Buut, it takes time, so patience

What have you done personally for increasing your self awareness? I've read the guide but never truly understood. "Just know you exist" didn't really make sense to me in a practical way. Any advice?

Well, when you consider your awareness, your firing different parts of you brain. "I exist" is not a normal thought. Animals think, but a lot of them don't qualify for self-awareness. Train a lot during the day to consider your existence, you effect on everything, and everything's effect on you(including people), and what you did and will do in 5 minutes. Others put it as "living the moment". As long as you are considering your existence, you're doing it right. Also don't do it half-minded, or it'll lose it's effect. You gotta feel that "wonder" a little. In fact, I drew a flow chart Explaining the DILDing process. Of course it includes self-awareness. Want me to link it?
